FASTENING DEVICE FOR SKIRTS, BELTS, AND WAISTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 587,449, dated August 3, 1897.
Application filed April 21, 1897. Serial No. 633,076. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IDA LoUIsE OLDHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices for Skirts, Belts, and Waists, of which the fol lowing is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fastening devices for dress-skirts; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class by means of which the skirt may be connected with the waist and a belt held over the connection between the skirt and the waist.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a back view of a portion of the waist of a dress and of a portion of the skirt thereof and showing my improved fastening device in position and showing also a portion of the belt which is broken away over the fastening device; Fig. 2, a partial section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a back view of the fastening device detached.
In the drawings forming part of this specification the separate parts of myimprovement are designated by the same letters of reference in each of the views, and in the practice of my invention I provide two ordinary safety-pins A and B, and the side bars of these pins are each provided with loops or bends a and b, respectively and in practice one of these pins is connected with the lower portion of the waist and the other with the upper portion of the skirt, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, and when thus secured in position the loops or bends a and b of the pins A and B will be adjacent to each other.
Pivotally connected with the loop or bend b of the safety-pin B is a long fiat hook D, which is designed to hold the belt E in posi tion, and secured to the back of the shank of the hook D is a small loop-shaped hook or catch F, which is adapted to engage with the loop or bend a of the safety-pin A, this construction being clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
The operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the following statement thereof.
The pin A is secured to the lower portion of the Waist and the pin 13 to the upper portion of the skirt, and the hook or catch F is then passed over the loop or bend a of the pin A, and in this positionthe hookD extends upwardly and is adapted to overlap the upper portion of the belt E, which is passed therethrough.
This device will securely hold the waist and the skirt together and will also hold the'belt E exactly over the line of connection between the waist and skirt, as shown in Fig. 1, and the belt cannot slip up nor can the skirt be detached from or fall below the waist.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A fastening device consisting of two sepa rate parts as A, and B, said parts being of the form of ordinary safety-pins, one side of each part being provided with a loop or bend, and one of said loops or bends being provided with a hook as D, said hook being provided with a catch as F which is secured to the back thereof, substantially as shown and described.
