PATENT ()EEIcE.
BELT-HOLDER OR ATTACHING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 750,484, dated January 26, 1904.
Application filed May 16, 1908. Serial No. 157,494. (No model.)
' art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a belt-holder or attaching device; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is particularly adapted for use in connection with gentlemens belts; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a belt attaching or holding device constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
This invention is also an improvement on that described and claimed in United States Letters Patent No. 693,058 granted to me February 11, 1902, and is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is an inside view or back elevation of my improved belt attaching or holding device and showing a part of a belt therein; Fig. 2, a transverse section on the line2 2 of Fig. 1, showing also the application of the invention; and Fig. 3 a side View ofthe device detached.
In the practice of my invention I provide a belt attaching and holding device consisting of a plate a, which is provided at its upper end with a backwardly and downwardly directed member a having a central opening or eyelet a which opens laterally by means of a passage (4, and at the bottom end of the plate a is a forwardly and upwardly directed hook member (6 and backwardly-directed side jaws a, in which is pivoted a clamp a and to the upper end of the plate a and secured thereto by means of a keeper a or in any other desired manner is a strap Z2.
In practice the belt 0 is passed over or around the plate a, with the bottom edge thereof resting in the hook a The strapb is then folded downwardly around the bottom edge of the belt and around the hook a and passed up between the clamp a and the back of the plate a, as shown in Fig. 2, and said clamp 64 is turned down into position and operates in the manner of an ordinary suspenderclamp or similar device, and this securely holds the holding or attaching device to the be t. i
In Fig. 2 I have shown at (Z a part of the waistband of a pairof trousers and with which is connected the ordinary suspender button or buttons 0, and in practice after the attaching or holding device has been connected with the belt, as hereinbefore described, the belt is passed around the waist in the usual manner and is so manipulated as to pass the button e into the eyelet or opening a in theback memhere of the attaching or holding device, and this, as will be understood, will hold the belt in proper position and prevent it moving upwardly or downwardly on the waistband of the trousers.
Two or more of these devices may be used on a belt, and instead of first connecting the belt with the holder or attaching device the latter may be first connected with the button 6 and the belt afterward secured thereto.
The object of employing the flexible strap b is to provide means whereby belts of different widths may be used. It will be understood that the bottom edge of the belt always rests in the hook portion a and the belt may extend above the upper end of the plate a; but it will be understood that the strap 6 is always passed around the belt, as shown and clescribed, and by employing the strap 6 I provide means whereby the device may be used in connection with belts of any desired width.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A belt holding or attaching device, comprising a plate provided at its upper end with a backwardly and downwardly directed member having a central opening and a laterallydirected passage, said plate being provided at its lower end with an outwardly and upwardly directed hook, and with baclnvardly-directed side jaws and a clamp pivoted therein, substantially as shown and described.
2. A belt holding or attaching device, comprising a plate provided at its upper end with a backwardly and downwardly directed member having a central opening and a laterallydirected passage, said plate being provided at its lower end with an outwardly and upwardly directed hook, and with backwardly-directed IO side jaws. and a clamp pivoted therein, and a strap secured to the upper end of said plate, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 12th 5 day of May, 1903.
