PATENT Erica.
SIEGFRIED WALDEOK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 762,214, dated June 7, 1904. Application filed February 6, 1904. Serial No. 192,418. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIEGFRIED WALDEcK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county and State of- New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boxes for Holding Phonographic Records, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a box or receptacle in which a phonographic record can be safely kept or carried without risk of breakage and from which the record can be readily removed.
This invention is set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical central section of the box, showing the record secured therein. Fig. 2 is a like section showing the record removed from the box and clinging to the cover. Fig. 3 and Fig. at are sections at right angles to Figs. 1 and 2 of the cover and box, respectively.
The object of this invention is to provide a box wherein phonographic records can be securely packed and transported without danger of breakage, and when the record is to be removed from the box it can be accomplished by removing the cover of the box, which has a tubular part in frictional contact with the interior surface of the record.
In the drawings the letter a designates a tubular cylinder having an upper or top cover 6 and a lower or bottom cover 0. The whole constitutes the box, with cover for the record, The upper or top cover is provided with a tubular part 62, secured to the under surface of said cover, This top coverhas parts of its tubular end cut away at e to give elasticity to the tube, so that the same will expand to be in frictional contact with the interior spiral ribbed surface f of the record. The bottom Cover could be secured to the tubular cylinder and is provided with a tubular guide 9, which is slightly tapered toward the top, so that the record can be easily slid thereon. This tubular guide has longitudinal splits it h partly along its length, so that when the record is slid thereon the part will have suflicient spring or elasticity to expand and be in contact with the lower part of the interior spiral rib of the record. The record can be removed from the box without handling or touching, thus avoiding injury to the fragile record and providing a convenient method of holding the record While sliding the same onto a phonograph-cylinder.
The tube (Z of the cover Z) has sufficient spring or grip against the interior of the record to lift the record or cause it to adhere to the cover when the box is opened, as seen in Fig. 2.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A box for phonographic records, a cover for the box and cylindrical or tubular split holders for entering a record in the box, the holder at the cover being made to clamp or engage the inner wall of the record so that the latter will adhere to or be lifted out of place on the opening of the cover.
2. A box for phonographic records, and a cover for the box, said box and cover having supporters or cylinders for entering the record, the supporter at the cover being expansible to grasp or clamp the record to lift with the cover when opened.
3. A box for phonographic records, having a removable cover, provided with a portion projecting from its under side toward the bottom of the box, and adapted to frictionally engage the inner surface of the phonographic record, whereby when the cover is withdrawn, such record will be carried there with.
4:. A box for phonographic records, having a bottom cover and a top cover, the latter being removable, each cover having a portion projecting toward the other cover, and each projecting portion serving to frictionally engage the inner surface of the record, and the top cover portion being adapted to exert a greater pressure than the other projecting portion. I
In testimony whereof I h ave hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
