SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 761,399, dated May 31, 1904.
' Application filed May 2, 19043. Serial No. 155,321. (No model.)
penholder whereby two or more lines of equalor unequal distance-apart may be made, as desired. A further object of the invention is to provide a pen especially'adapted for use in orna- .mental penmanship, marking cards, marking lines in ledgers, lettering, &c. y
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective View of my im- Fig. 2 is a plan View showing one of the pens at an angle. Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-section taken'on line 3 3 of Fig. 2 and shows the penholding devices removed from one of the holders. Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional elevation taken on line4 4 of Fig. 2, showing the means for holding the pens in an adjusted position. Fig. 5 is a perspective View of la modification.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a metal penholder, provided on its upper'end with an extension 2 and having an opening 2' in the center thereof.
3 indicates an intermediate penholder, the upper end of which is provided with the extensions 4`and 4', each extension being pro` vided with an opening 5. The extension 4 is adapted to be pivotally-secured to the extension 2 by means of a rivet or other like fastening 6. The extension 4 is adapted to be secured to the extension 7 on'the penholder 8 by means of a rivet or other like fastening 6. The extensions4 and 4 are provided near one edge thereof with vdepressions' 9. The purpose of lthe depressionsv 9 is to bear against the upper surface of the extensions 2 and 7, thus acting as a wedge and preventing the penholders from being accidentally displaced when adjusted to the desired angle.
10 indicates a pen-point holder of ordinary lconstruction which is adapted to be inserted into the penholders 1, 3, and 8 and the pens 11 secured therein. 12 indicates the handle. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 but two penholders 13 and 14 are pivotallysecured together by means of the rivet 15. vThe construction of said penholders is similar to penholders 1 and 8. 16 indicates a tube inserted in the penholders 13 and 14, the bottom of.
which is rigidly secured thereto. The purpose of the tube 16 is to allowtheinsertion of a pen-point and hold` the same in place.
. It will be readily Vapparent that any number of penh'olders can be secured together by using two or more intermediate penholders 3,
provided with the extensions 4 and 4'. It will also be apparent that the handle of the pen may be inserted in either the intermediate or outer penholders, as desired.
Slight changes can of course be made in the general form of construction and arrangement of the several parts herein describedv either side thereof, and the outer penholders being provided with extensions on one side thereof and adapted to be pivotally secured lto vthe extensions on the intermediate penholder, and a depression formed on the extensions of the intermediate penholder and bearing against the under surface of the extension of the outer penholders, holding the penholders rmly in any desired angle, substantially'as'and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.

H. T. MARCH, J. P. PAYNTER.
