,4 IMPROVEMENT IN INKSTANDS.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. 222,200, dated December 2, 1879 application filed August 14,1879.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT C. NICHOLS, ot' Boston7 of the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusettshave invented a new and useful Improvement in Inkstands; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure lis a top View, Fig. 2 a front elevation, Fig. 3 an end `view, Fig. 4 a transverse section,`and Fig. 5 a longitudinal section, of an inkstand embracing my invention. The body and pen-racks of the said inkstand are intended to be cast in one piece of glass or metal, the' body `having two open chambers in it, one of which is for holding` ink, and the other for containing a pin-cushion. One penrack is higher than, or projects above the top of the bodya greater distance than, the other,
in order that when apen is laid in the racks it may beso inclined to the horizon as to cause any ink that may be on the said pen to dow toward its nib rather than into the end of or upon the pen-handle. i
