SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 751,042, dated. February 2, 1904. Application filed June 15, 1903. Serial No. 161,423. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BASSINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Passaic, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Invoice Indexes and Filing- Cases, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved invoice index and filing-case, which may also be used as a card-index and for similar purposes; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the fol lowing specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved invoice index and filing-case; Fig. 2, a similar view with one end removed and showing a modification; Fig. 3, a view of the removed end of the box or filing-case shown in Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a face view of an index-card whichI employ; Fig. 5, aview of a rodwhich forms a part of my improvement, and Fig. 6 a transverse section of my improved invoice index and filing-case.
In the practice of my invention I provide an oblong box or case a, comprising side portions (0 a stationary end portion (4 a bottom (0 and a movable end portion a, which in the form of construction shown in Fig. 1 is hinged to the bottom (f, as shown at a, and which in the form of construction shown in Fig. 2 consists of a removable end piece or door having a thickened portion a adapted to enter between the sides a of the box or case and provided with tongues (4 adapted to enter vertically-arranged grooves a, formed in the in-v ner surfaces of the sides a of the box or case. The sides a of the box or case are also provided centrally thereof with deep longitudinal grooves a, which are segmental in cross-section and adapted to receive rods 0, on which the index-cards (Z are mounted, and these index-cards (Z are provided at their opposite ends case is free to receive invoice blanks or files or any other documents or articles it is desired to file.
In order to remove the invoices or other matter from the box or case, the rods 0 are taken out and the movable end portion or door a lowered or removed, and the entire contents of the box may be slid out without disturbing the order thereof and may be-placed in a suitable transfer-case, and the index-cards d may be removed therefrom and again placed in the box or case in the manner shown in Fig. 1 and the filing-case is again ready for use.
The rods 0 may be passed entirely through the end a of the box or case and maybe provided with nuts, if preferred, and it will be apparent that the box a may be made of any desired length.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is
A filing-case comprising an oblong box having one movable end, the sides of the box being provided in their inner surface with deep longitudinal grooves arranged centrally thereof, rods provided with knobs at one end and screwthreaded at the other, and adapted to be passed through the movable end of the box through said grooves and to be secured in the stationary end of the box, and index-cards provided at their opposite ends with projections adapted to fit in said grooves and having holesthrough which said rods are passed, substantially as shown and described.
