menses Application filed June 10, 1914.
To at whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JULIO P. HnRNANonz, residing at lloilo, in the Province of 110110, Philippine islands, have invented new and useful Improvements in File-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to file boxes, for use in filing away papers, etc, and particularly to file boxes of that type composed of relatively movable sections, the front section being slidably engaged with the bottom of the box.
The object of the present invention is to provide a construction of equalizing connections between the front and back sections of the box, whereby the front section will be guided in an accurate path and prevented from binding in its movements, the said connections also serving to hold the front section so as to permit of its easy adjustment to retain the papers or documents in position.
A further object of the invention is to provide equalizing connections of the character described which are connected so as to also serve as partitions, whereby different kinds or sets of paper may be held separated from each other.
The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which 2- Figure 1 is a side view of a file box embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical trans verse section.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the stationary bottom of the box, 2 the rigid rear wall of the box projecting upwardly from the bottom 1, and 8 the movable or adjustable front wall of the box movably connected with the bottom 1 and adjustable with relation to the wall 2. In the present instance I have shown the front wall 3 provided with a guide member f which slidably engages a suitable form of guide way 5 in the bottom 1. It is well known that file boxes of this type are open to objection, in that the movable section 3 is liable to tilt out of an accurate path of movement, so that its guide member or portion binds in the guideway. tom and front Walls are also liable to bind and inhibit free movements of the front wall.
It is the object of my invention to provide an equalizing connection between the walls 2 and 3 whereby these objections are overcome.
The equalizing connections embodying my invention consist of opposite sets of like lazy-tong levers 6 connecting the side portions of the walls 2 and 3 on opposite sides of the storage space of the box. These levers are pivoted to said walls 2 and 3 and to each other so as to extend and contract in a direction longitudinally of the box, the upper terminal pivots 6 being in the form of fixed pivots, while the lower terminal pivots 6 slidably engage guide grooves 6 in the walls 2 and 3, the construction and arrange ment being therefore such that the wall 8 will always be held parallel with the wall 2 and prevented from tilting or canting vertically or laterally, by which the guiding portions i and 5 are always maintained in a proper relative relation for an easy and accurate adjustment of the wall 3 toward and from the wall 2, as binding of the parts is thus prevented and an easy, quick and rapid adjustment of the wall 3 insured, while at the same time the lazy-tong equalizing connections serve to retain the papers or documents against lateral displacement. As shown, the upper pivotal connections 7 between the lazy-tong levers extend across the space between the sets of levers and form common pivot members therefor, by which the two sets of lovers are connectedto move in exact accord with each other. These pivot members, preferably in the form of rods, also serve as partitions by which different kinds or sets of papers may be divided from each other, as will be readily understood.
1 claim A file box including relatively movable front and rear walls, a bottom composed of slidably connected guide members carried by the respective walls, sets of lazy-tong levers extending between the said front and rear walls at each side of the box, said levers having upper and lower pivotal connections, the terminal upper connections forming fixed pivots between said levers and the front and rear walls, and the lower connections having terminal pivot members slidably engaging the front and rear Walls, and In testimony whereof I affix my signature the intermediate 'u'pper pivot member's comin presence of two Witnesses.
