EQUALIZER. I
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 21, 1911.
Serial No. 521,164;
To all whomitmay concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN C. Bnoirnnno,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of innebago, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Equalizers, of which the following is a specificatiom The object of this invention is to construct an equalizer for the doors and, drawers of cases in order that both ends of the door or drawer may move without cramping in the ends of the case.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the top of a. section of a case showing my improvements in posltion. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section, in which the door is closed. Fig. 3 is a similar transverse section in which the door is connection between the door and the slide. 1
Fig. 0 is a top. view of the connectionat one end of the door. Fig. 6 is a perspectlve view of one of the slides.
The case section to which I have applied my improi-ements comprises the bottom 1, ends 2, back 3, top a and shelf 5 located beneath the top. The ends 2 are formed with grooves forming guide-ways 6. A guide is located in each of the guide-ways 6 and comprises the main portion 7, offset ear 8, and offset projections 9. The lower edge of the main portion 7 is slidable in a groove 7, formed in the shelf 5 alongside the end 2 and parallel thereto. The offset projections are located in the guide-ways 6, and slidable therein. The main portion 7 is formed with a notch 10 in its upper face, and a hook 11 has a pivotal connection with the main portion and adapted to line with the notch 10.
To the shelf 5 are pivoted two levers 12 and 1.3 at the points 14, and each lever has a fork composed of the branches 15 and 16. A link 17 connects the branches 15 of the forks, and a link 18 connects the branches 16. These links cross. To each of the levers l2 and 13 is pivotally connected an extension 19, and this extension is pivotally connected to the ear 8 of the slide.
An article shown in the present embodiment as a door 20 has a headed stud 21 projecting from each end and which are located in the notches 10 in the guides and are held from displacement by the hooks 11 engaging them. With the door thus connected to the guide,it may bemoved into .a position to close the opemng 1n the case as shown at Fig. 2, and, may be moved into a position sothat access may be had to the case as shown at Fig. 3.
The links 17 and 18 connecting the arms 15 and 16 serve to impart like movement toboth arms when the door is moved.
sides, of a support located between the end walls and having guideways in its upper side, reciprocatory guides having angularly disposed portions located and operating in the guideways of the end walls and support, and an article movable on the support and connected to the guides.
2. In an article of furniture of the character set forth, the combination with spaced end walls having guideways in their inner sides, of a shelf extending between the end walls below the guideways and having guideways in its upper side contiguous to the end walls, guides having their lower margins slidable in the guideways of the shelf and having offset projections slidable in the guideways of the end walls, and 'an article slidable on the shelf and connected to the guides.
3. In an article of furniture of the character set forth, the combination with spaced end walls having guideways in their inner sides, of a support located between the end walls and having guideways in its upper side, reciprocatory guides having angularly disposed portions located and operating in the guideways of the end walls and support, and a closure member having detachable pivotal connections with the guides and being slidable on the support.
4. In an article of furniture of the character set forth, the combination with spaced end walls having guideways in their inner sides, of a shelf extending between the end walls below the guideways and having guideways in its upper side contiguous to the end walls, guides having their lower margins slidable in the guideways of the shelf and having offsetprojections slidable in the guideways of the end walls, said guides having notches, and a closure mem- CII 5. In an article of furniture of the character set forth, the combination with a support, of a pair of levers fulcrumed thereon, crossed slidably associated links pivotally connected to and connecting the levers, and an article movable on the support and having pivotal connections with the levers.
G. In an article of furniture of the character set forth, the combination with a sup port, of a pair of levers fulcrumed between their ends thereon, and each having branches, crossed links pivotally connected to and connecting the said branches of the levers, and an article movable on the support and having pivotal connections with the outer ends of the levers.
7. In an article of furniture of the character set forth, the combination with a support, of guides slidably mounted 011 the support, an article movable on the support and connected to the guides, and levers separately fulcrumed on the support and having pivotal link connections with each other and with the guides.
8. In an article of furniture of the character set forth, the combination with end walls having guideways in their inner sides, of a shelf extending between the end Walls and having guideways in its upper side c0ntiguous to said end walls, angular guides having portions slidably engaging in the guideways of the shelf and endWalls, a member movable on the shelf and having pivotal connections with the guides, levers fulcrumed between their ends on the shelf and having divergent branches at their contiguous ends, crossed links pivotally c011- necting the diagonally opposite branches of the levers, and link connections between the outer ends of the levers and the guides.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
