HARRY ZALKIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR T0 FOLLOW-UP-SYSTEM 00., A
CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
GUIDE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 1, 1 913.
Application filed July 25, 1912. Serial No. 711,590.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY ZALKIN, a subject of the Czar of Russia, and a resident of the cit-y, county, and State of New York, have .invented a new and useful Improvement in Guides, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a guide which may be attached to any suitable paper or card-board, as the edge of a file, and there indicate a number or posi tion or page which the eye can readily see at a glance, and without careful examination, and. to make this guide so that it may be easily placed or moved, and yet will stay fixed and without danger of being moved by accident.
A further object is to make a durable and simple structure which will be cheap to manufacture and easy to keep in repair and not liable to get out of repair.
These objects and other objects are ac complished by my invention, one embodiment of which is hereinafter shown.
For a more particular description of my invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, in which- Figure 1- is a front elevation of my improved device when in use on a file. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, taken on the lineQ-Q of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 3 1s a rear elevation of the gulde.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
My improved device 1 may be applied to any suitable file 2, as shown in Fig. 1. Here the file 2 is provided with a series of numerals and the guide 1 may be placed opposite any of these so as to indicate the number to which it is attached. For example, suppose the file is to be examined any particular day, as the 6th of a given month the guide 1 is attached over the numeral 6, and as the file stands in a case, with many other files, any one searching for the files which must be looked after the day of the 6th, will notice the guides in line with the 6 and immediately remove these files.
Each guide 1 is composed of two plates 3 and-4 which have three lines in'common when not in use, that is the ends 5 and 6 will meet, and so will the ends 7 and 8 and the middle portions 9 and 10 which are bent, as shown in Fig. 2. It is not necessary that these ends 5 and 6 or 7 and 8 should meet, as it is sufiicient if they substantially meet so that they will grip paper or card-board when placed between them. The plate a on each side of the curved portion 10 is recessed by havin bent, as shown in Fig. 2 so that they pass through corresponding openings 12 on each side of the bent portion 9, and then these tongues 11 are clenched over this bent portion 9 and toward each other so that the g tongues 11 cut therefrom andparts 3 and 4 are held firmly together and in such a manner that twisting is impossible. These tongues 11 cause the ends to grip the card-board or paper 2 with suflicient firmness to hold the guide in place at the desired position so that it will not be moved or shifted by accident. The guide may be placed or shifted by having two ends, say 7 and 8 separated by pressing the guide near the ends 5 and 6, or the reverse may be done so that the guide may be attached by either end. If desired, the guide may be made so as to have one or more faces suitable for marking with a pencil or other instrument, or a label or tag may be inserted between the ends 5 and 6 should this be desired.
While I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention, it is obvious it is not limited thereto, but is broad enough to cover all structures that come within the scope of the annexed claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a device of the class described, a pair of plates having converging ends and transversely curved intermediate portions abutting against each other to form a fulcrum, openings on each side of one of said intermediate portions and tongues on each side of the other of said intermediate portions, said tongues extending through said openings and clenched after passing through the same so as to'hold said plates in proper relation one to the other.
2. In a device of the class described, a
pair of plates having converging ends and curved intermediate portion of the plate 10 transversely curved intermediate portions With openings.
abutting against each other to form a fu'l- Signed at the city, county and State of cruni, openings on each side of one of said New York, this 23rd day of July, 1912. intermediate portions and tongues on each side of the other of said intermediate por- HARRY ZALKIN' tions, said tongues extending through said Witnesses: openings and clenching, after passing 0. E. EDWARDS, J r., through the same, against the transversely K. ROSENBERG.
