Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY E. HAWKINS, a naturalized citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Clovis, in the county of Fresno and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Blot-- ter-Holders and Rulers, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a combined blotter holder and ruler, the' blo-tters being removable from the holder for the purpose of replacing the same by new ones.
For the purpose mentioned, use is made of an integral piece of flexible material bent to form a longitudinally extending slot adapted to slidably receive a blotter, an end of the said piece of material being slightly bent to retain the blotter in the slot, the other end of the said piece of material being bent at an angle to form a straight edge.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device. Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 in Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a flexible piece of material 10 having a portion 11 thereof bent upon itself to form a side 12, thus forming a slot 18 between the portions 11 and 12, an end 1 1 of the said piece of material being slightly bent toward the portion 12 to restrict the opening of the slot. The portion 12 is then bent upon itself to form an upper side 15 having the end 16 thereof slightly bent and forming a straight edge 17.
In the use of my device, a blotter 18 is attached to the holder by sliding one of the longitudinal ends of the-blotter into the slot 13 from one end thereof. Thus, it will be seen that the bent edge 14 will prevent the manufacture the holder of celluloid or rub-- her, it being understood, however, that I do not limit myself to the grade or kind of material employed in the construction of the holder.
I claim As a new article of manufacture, a combined blotter and ruler comprising a single piece of material bent longitudinally to provide three substantially parallel superimposed strips, one of the outermost strips having its free edge extending beyond and bent downwardly toward the other two strips to form a straight edge, and a blotter for removable insertion between the other two strips.
