HARRY A. ROAT, JR., OF HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
GAh/lEmBOARD.
SPECIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 746,993, dated December 15, 1903.
Application filed September 4,1903. Serial No. 171,903. (No model.)
useful improvements in game-boards designed to be employed in playing parlor games of various sorts, especially such in which mar-l bles or the like are used.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a game-board which may be readily manipulated by one person, acting as a scorer in the game, to present certain apertures or orifices therein to one of the players, so that should such player shoot or send a marble through one of the apertures in the board he will receive credit for a certain number of points, such number being indicated by numerals placed over or adjacent to the apertures.
Still another object of my invention is to provide an improved brace or support for the game board.
With the above-recited objects and others of a similar nature in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as is described in this specification, delineated in the accompanying drawings, and set forth in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the Iigures.
Figure l is a view illustrating the manner of employing my improved game-board; and Fig. 2-is a rear perspective View of such board, showing the arrangement of braces and supports therefor.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, A designates a top of a table or similar surface, upon which my improved game-board 5 is designed to be placed. This board, as will be seen, is preferably rectangular in shape and has formed at one end thereof a handle through the medium of which the board may be turned or manipulated by the scorer. At the opposite end said board is formed with a series of curved slots or recesses 7 of varying sizes, each recess having placed adjacent thereto a numeral indicating the points the player will receive for shooting amarble through said opening. Along one of the longitudinal side edges of the board are formed a number of openings 8, said openings also varying in size, the largest being preferably arranged in the center of the board, and above such openings are placed numerals indicating the number of points the player Will receive, the
numerals being arranged so that the smaller the opening the larger will be the number of points received for the skill displayed in sending the marble through the same. The opposite longitudinal edge of the board is marked with similar openings 9, such openings being arranged in alinement with those of the opposite longitudinal edge, this arrangement being followed for the reason that if two parties are playing a game they stand at each end of the table, the board being placed in the center of the table, the hand pointing to the scorer, who is standing ou the side of the table, as shown in Fig. l. As one player shoots the scorer byturning the board sets the same facing the opposite player. The board has formed in the body portion thereof a central circular aperture 10, while at various points in the body are formed other circular apertures 1l, which apertures also have an indicating value when a marble is sent through the same.
In order to support the board, I have se* cured to the back portion thereof two folding braces l2 l2, each of said braces being formed,
preferably, of a pieceof Wire and secured through the medium of suitable screw-eyes 13. A second brace 14 is arranged longitudinaliy of the board and straddles one of the transverse braceslZ, so that the board may be easily supported when it is turned on end, so as to have the openings 7 upon the table.
The manner of playing the game will be readily apparent from the above description. Acertain number of points are decided upon, and the player begins shooting the marble IOO through the apertures in the board, certain points being counted according to the opening through which the marble passes, the player reaching the predetermined number of points rst being declared the Winner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A game-board, provided with a handle 1o and having a plurality of openings cut in the longitudinal side edges and one of the transverse end edges thereof, each of said openings having an indicated value when a marble or the like is sent therethrough by a party playing the game and braces for supporting the board upon either of its longitudinal edges or upon the transverse edge, as desired, substantially as set forth.
2. A gaine-board comprising a rectangular zo body portion having openings in the edges thereof, a plurality of circular apertures, formed in the body portion, away from the edges, said openings and apertures having an indicated value, a handle for said board, and braces pivoted to the back of the board, for
supporting the latter upon either of its longitudinal edges or upon a transverse edge, substantially as set forth.
3. A game-board, comprising a body portion having a plurality of openings formed along the longitudinal edges thereof, the open ings of one edge being arranged in alinement and in a reversed position to the openings of the opposite edge, so that by reversing the board the line of the openings may be presented to a number of players, each of said openings having a value in points When a marble or the like is sent therethrough by the player, a plurality of brace-rods extending transversely of said board at the. back thereof, and a folding brace-rod arranged longitudinally of the board at the back thereof adapted to support the board when the latter is placed with a notched end portion upon atable or the like, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses.
