PATENT OFFIC GAME APPARATUS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 753,561, dated March 1, 1904. Application filed July 8, 1903. Serial No. 164,677. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARL S P. EDMUNDs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and amusing Improvement in Game Apparatus,of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a new and amusing game apparatus, and has for its object to provide a game consisting of a board over which weights are propelled, similar to shufiie-board, the counting being regulated by the spot in which the weights stop.

With this end in view this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, the construction and operation will now be described in detail, referring to the accompanying drawings,forming a part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a plan view of thegame-board; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section of the same; Fig. 3, a cross-sectionof the board; Fig. 4, a perspective view of two of the weights; Fig. 5, an enlarged plan view of one end of the board.

A represents the board, which is rectilinear in shape and elongated and has a raised portion B, and between this raised portion B and the raised edge C is a depression or channel\ D. Upon the extreme edge of each end of the raised portion B is represented a line of circles E, each circle having a number represented therein, and just behind the circles, toward the center of the board at each end, are represented a number of squares, every alternate square being a different color and numbered. y

In playing the game each player is provided with four weights, each players weight being lettered with a different letter or number, as

shown in Fig. 4. The players may all stand at one end of the board, as in shufiie-board,

or they may divide. When there are more than two players, one-half may stand at each end of the board, the partners standing at op- 5 posite ends.

In playing the game the central raised portion B is designed to be sanded, as a shuffleboard, and the weights F are slid along the board, and the count depends upon where the weights stop. Each weight F is composed of a circular disk-shaped body having a raised square portion F upon its upper side. When the weight stops in any of the squares at the rear of the line of circles,no count is made unless the weight stops so that the squared portion F is wholly within one of the numbered squares, and then the count is made according to the number upon that square. If the weight stops within any of the circles E, the number is counted according to the number upon the circle; Thus it will be seen that the ordinary shuiiie-board is improved upon in that more skill is. required in sliding the weight so that it will stop upon as high a numher as possible and at the same time skill is required, the same as in shufile-board, to throw your weight so as to knock your opponents weight off of the board and cause yours to remain thereon.

Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction here shown, as slight modifications could be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- The combination with a game-board having a series of circles and a series of squares indicated thereon, game-pieces slidable on the board and having a base of such contour as to fit the circles of the board, the said gamepieces having reduced tops with straight sides, each adapted to lie within the field of one of the squares, substantially as described. 7
