Description
N. W. MOULTON.
Game-Table.
Patented June 22,1875.
Willi UNITED STATES PATENT CFFICE.
NATHANIEL W. MOULTON, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAME-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,654, dated June 22, 1875; application filed April 27, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, N. WV. MOULTON, of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a Game-Table, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to make a stationary table with a combination of several popular games, together with counters for all the games to be played on the surface of said table.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a top View of the table. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the adjustable border. Fig. 3 is a side view, partly in section, of the table, illustrating the method of working the adjustable border A. Fig. 4 is a partial view of the border A, showing the thumb or set screws 0 attached for the purpose of raising or lowering the said border.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts.
Upon the table I make a checker or chess board, K, and upon each side of the checkerboard I make a series of perforations in six sections each, J, as counters for two, three, or tour-handed cribbage, or similar games, with home corners I for each player. Upon the table I also make a backgammon-board, E, as represented in Fig. l, and immediately surrounding the same I make a recess, into which I place the adjustable border A. The object of said border is to provide for the game of backgammon, or similar games, a board having the customary raised portions; but it is so arranged as to make a smooth surface on the table at will when other games are to be played. Directly underneath each of the corners of the border I place a small cylinder, B, into which the set-screw is made to work. The set-screws are turned from underneath the table when the border is to be raised or lowered raised for the game of backgammon, or lowered to bring the top of the border flush with the surface of the table for other games. At or near two or more corners, G, and even with the surface of the table, I place wheel-shaped or rotating counters or game-keepers, the same surrounded by figures for tallying purposes. Beneath the top board I make one or more drawers, F, to contain the apparatus for the difler'ent games to be played.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, iss A game -table provided with an adjustable border, .A, backgammon-board E, checkerboard K, counters G, and cribbage-counters J, the whole constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose specified.
NATHANIEL WV. MOULTON. Witnesses:
