SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 511,773, dated January 2, 1894.
Anplioation filed March 13. 1893.

Be it known that I, FREDERICK A. HIGGINS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Vinthiop, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game-Boards,of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in game boards and it is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which represents a top plan view of the improved game board.
The invention consists of aboard having a central square field A divided in sixty four contrasting squares similar to a checker board and may be used for the purpose of playing chess, checkers or similar games usually played on such a board. Adjoining the four sides of said checker board A are four rectangular fields B, O, D, and E, each one being of a length equal to the center field or checker board A and of any desired width. Each of the four fieldsB, C, D, and E are subdivided in squares of a size equal to the squares in the checker board A as shown in the drawing, the shaded squares Z), c, d, e,in said side fields being preferably made in contrasting colors, one relative to the other respective fields. The squares b, c, d, e, are preferably numbered or marked as shown.
At the four corners of the board are the respective square fields F, G, H and I each of which is a square the side of which is equal to the width of the respective rectangular fields B, O, D, E, as shown. Each of said squares F, G, H, and I is subdivided in contrasting squares equal in size to the squares in the center and side fields.

2. The herein described game board consisting of a square center field A, subdivided in contrasting squares combined with rectangular subdivided side fields B, O, D, E, and square subdivided corner fields F, G, IiI,and I, said center and corner fields having Wicket marks a, g, 2' arranged thereon substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The herein described game board consisting of a square center field A subdivided in contrasting squares combined with rectangular subdivided side fields B, O, D,E having marks or figures on a portion of theirsubdivisions and square subdivided cornerfields F, G, H, I, substantially as and forthe purpose set forth.
