Description

W. SGARLE'TT. BUCKLE.
No. 7,370. Patented May 14, 1850.
ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WM. SCARLETT, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
SUSPENDER-BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 7,370, dated May 14, 1850.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM SQARLETT, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Buckle; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification.
Figure 1, is a front view of a portion of a suspender, the parts A, b, of which are co1nbined by my improved buckle; Fig. 2, is a vertical longitudinal section, and Fig. 3, an edge view thereof.
Similar letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
My improved buckle is composed of the curved plate 0, and the bent lever 03, combined with each other in the manner represented in the drawings. The bent lever d,
has pivots projecting from each edge or extremity of its angle that pass into holes in the ends 6, e, of the curved plate 0.
To combine two pieces to each other by my improved buckle, I pass the part A, between the under side of the curved plate 6,
and the short leg of the lever (Z; and pass the part 6, through an opening in the outer end of the long leg of the lever d as represented; or permanently confine the part b, to the long leg of (Z, in any usual manner. Vhen the lever d, is drawn into the position represented in Figs. 2, and 3, the short leg thereof is of such a length that its extremity will press the part or strap A, against the under side of the curved plate 0, with such force and tenacity of grip as to prevent the buckle from slipping thereon.
I do not intend to limit the use of my improved buckle to any particular purpose.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The constructing a buckle by combining a curved plate 0, with an angular lever (Z, substantially in the manner herein set forth.
The above specification of my improved buckle signed and witnessed this thirteenth day of February 1850.
, M! SCARLETT.
Witnesses ELIAS R. OGDEN, EDWD. B. D001).
