PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH PARBEL, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
COMBINATION-TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 736,435, dated August 18, 1903. Application filed May 29, 1902. Serial No. 109,482. (No model.)
combination-tools; and its object is to provide the same with certain new and useful features hereinafter more fully described and once being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the same with a portion broken away to show the construction.
Like letters refer to like parts in both figures.
A and B represent the handle portions of the device, which are pivoted at G and prolonged beyond the pivot to form pliers D. Near the pivot C and on the handle B is a suitable hatchet-blade E, provided with a nail-puller recess F. Proje ng rom the handle A and opposite to the hatchet E is a hammer-head G. In the adjacent sides of the handles A and B and between the parts E and G are rectangular recesses H, adapted to engage the opposite angles of a nut, and
thus qualify the device to act as a nut-wrench.
Near these recesses H are concave corrugated opposing surfaces I, adapted to engage cylindrical bodies to qualify the device to act as a pipe-wrench.
The end of the-handle B is provided with a suitable screw-driver K, and the end of the handle A is curved away from the handle B and terminates in a pair of diverging and corrugated jaws L, forming an alligatorwrench. The lower jaw of this wrench is provided with a tubular extension L, having at its under side a longitudinal slot L", in which is a pin N, adapted to traverse the slot and inserted in a rod M. This rod is screw-threaded at its outer end and inserted in the internally-threaded boss 0' of a suitable handle O. The inner end of the rod M is removed at one side and provided with a pin T to engage and hold one end of a saw P. The other end of the saw is engaged with a corresponding pin '1 in a log Q on the hammer G and held thereby. Near the pivot C are suitable recesses J to form a wire-cutter.
Attached to one side of the device, and preferably to one end of the. pivot G, is a pointed pin R, engaged near its movable end by a suitable hook S.
The pin N traverses the slot L" as the handle O is turned to tighten the saw, and by de taching the saw from the pins T the rod M and handle 0 are readily detached from the device as occasion requires.
In conjunction with the device claimed I have shown a number of attached tools with which my device is adapted to be associated, and thus form apart of a structure adapted to a great variety of uses.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a combination-tool, a handle, a hammer-head projecting from near one end thereof, said handle also curved outward in the direction of the hammer-head near the other end, and a hack-saw attached to the hammerhead, and to the handle.
2. In a combination-tool, a handle having a curved end, a tubular extension on said end, a rod in said extension, a hammer-head extending from near the other end of the handle, a hack-saw attached to the hammerhead and to the rod and a handle having a screw-threaded opening engaging screwthreads on the rod.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH PARBEL.
