Description

@einen tetes @anni @frn IMPROVE!) CLOTHES-PIN.
@te Stigeonle'nfrrreh tu in tips ettcrs ntnn rmt making met n'f tlge sume.
TO ALL WIIOM 4IT MAY'CONOERNz Be it known that I, DAVID D. JONES, of Scranton, in the county of Luzerne, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Pins; and do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and-exact description thereof. reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters/oi` reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specneation, A and B represent two half-round wooden pins, piroted together at xm, as seen, so that their flot sides lie against each other. C represents a collar, which is passed o ver the two pins A and B, and D represents e wire spring, which is coiled around the pins, between the collar and the pivot z. These pins are made tapering in form, and are provided with an opening, E, which is formed by making a vcross-groove on the flat side of each of the pins, said grooves being Aopposite each other,`as.seen. The clothes-line is held in the opening.
By slidihg the collar C toward the pivot x, so as to compress the spring D, the loose ends of the pins may be opened or separated, as seen in Figure 2, being then in position to receive the clothes-line. The spring, pressing the collar toward the line, when it is in the opening E, serves to bind the two pins together to prevent the escape of the elothesfrom the line.
The pins A and B, pivoted together at one end, and provided with the collar C and spring D, the several parts being constructed and used as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 19th day of June, 1867.
DAVID D. JONES. [L 8.]
