TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHARLES DUPR, of Louisville, Jefferson county, Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Hinges; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled 'in the art to make and use nthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. i
This invention relates to an improvement in door-hinges, and consists in a. metal plate countersunk in the door, coinciding attthe top of the door with a similar plate in the rabbet ofthe door-frame, each furnished with projecting arms or ears connected by a pin. At bottom of the door is a similar-eared plate. A screw passing through the ear into a socket completes the hinge and renders the door adjustable in place. In the accompanying drawings- 1 Figure 1 is a front view of door, showing partof lower hinge in section, and
Figure 2vis a horizontal section at line :v x.'
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the door; B, the door-frame; a, the plates countersunh in it, secured to it by screws or other equivalent method, and furnished with ears, E E. b is` the plate at top of rabbet of door-frame B, countersunk in it, and secured by screws or other equivalent method, and furnished with the car e. A pim-C, or its equivalent, connects the ears E and e, holding them together, and enabling the door toopcn and close. A screw, D, screws through E', and stands in the socket F fitted to receive it. By turning the screw D to the right, the door is raised. By turning it to the left, the door is lowered.
'lhe advantages of my invention are as follows: The facility and ease with which the door can be opened or closed, arising from the great reduction of friction as compared with the ordinary hinge. When the door drags or rubs upon the oor, the same can be easily raised without the necessity of'employing a carpenter; and the hinges being let into the casing and door, do not present an unpleasant object to the eye.
What 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, s-
The hinge-plates a and b, furnished with the arms or ears E, E', and c, in combination with the pin C, screw D, and socket F, or their respective equivalents, in manner substantially as and for the'purposes described.
The above specification of my invention, signed by me, this 22d day of April, 1867.
citas. DUPR.
