GLOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 730,471, dated J' une 9, 1903.
Application led August 30, 1902. Serial No. 121,(i28. (No model.)
T0 @ZZ 1071/0711/ t ntay concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS MCCON NELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a neuT an d useful Improvement in Gloves, of which the following is a speciiication.
rlhis invention relates generally to gloves, and more particularly to a glove intended for workingmens use. It frequently happens that men are compelledto Wear a glove upon one hand or the other for the purpose of handling certain kinds of material, and an ordinary glove will become Worn out in the palm or upon the inside, While the back portion remains perfectly good. Furthermore, it frequently happens that one glove Wears out much sooner than the other, owing tothe frequency with Which one glove is used.
The object of my invention is to providea glove Which shall be exactly alike on the front and back, and consequently reversible, thereby increasing the use of the glove exactly twofold.
With these various objects-in view the in vention consists, essentially,in constructing a glove with front and back portions exactly alike, each portion having a thumb attached thereto, thus rendering the glove a double reversible one.
The invention consists also in certain details hereinafter. described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specication, Figure l is a perspective view of a glove constructed in accordance with my in- Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View. Fig. 3 is a detail viewy showin g the arrangement of tivo thumbs. Fig. i is a plan view of the blank from which the glove is made, and Fig. 5 is a vieur of the blank from which the thumb is made.
In carrying out my invention I vemploy two faces A and B, which are preferably united along one edge, and the ltWo together constitutea single blank,.the portion A having the iinger portions A', A2, A3, and A4, While the portion B has finger portions B', B2, B3, and B4, and when the blank is folded upon the dotted lines these finger portions are stitched together, providing the four ngers of the glove, and it will be noted that the front and back portions of the blank and of the glove are exactly alike. The portion A has a thumbopening A5, and directly opposite the portion B has the thumb-opening B5. A thumb Afi is served into the thumb-opening A5, and a thumb' B6 issewed into the thumb-opening B5.' This Vcompletes the glove, and it will be noted that the front and back are exactly alike and that one thumb is connected to the front, while the other thumb is connected to the back of the glove. When one thumb is in use, the other thumb is reversed and turned into the glove, and owing to its location it Will not be at all inconvenient to the wearer.
In the drawings I have shown the glove arranged for use upon the left hand, and when the front face becomes Worn or when it is desired to use the glove upon the right hand the thumb at the rear is pulled out and the one at the front reversed and pushed in.
Vvlhen gloves are constructed as herein shown and described, they can be bought singly or in quantities, and it will not be neelessary to make and sell them in pairs, as is 'of which are alike, each face having athumb connected thereto, said thumbs being oppositely'disposed, as speciiied.
2. A glove formed of' a blank having three straight sides, the other side having an irregular outline and having seven slots extending' from the margin of the irregular outline toward the opposite straight side, and two circular openings produced in the body of the blank, said blank bein g folded, the line of fold being between the circular openings, and stitched along the irregular outline and along the free straight edges adjacent thereto, and thumb portions secured to the edges of each of the circular openings.
IOO
ger portions, and having apertures in the front and back portions adjacent the indextoV finger portion, and thumb portions, secured to the edges of the apertures.
