Description

Oct. 13, 1942 Q M. L. McCLURKEN 2,298,959
GLOVE FOR EITHER HAND Filed'Dec. 16, 1939 INVENT OR.
ATTORNEY.
Patented Oct. 13, 1942 UNETE STATES 2 Claims.
My invention relates to glovefor either hand and the objects of my invention are:
First, to provide a glove of this class which is formed to fit the hand and which fits equally well on either the right or left hand;
Second, to provide a glove of this class which is made of two pieces of material which are designed to form a complete well fitting glove when assembled;
Ihird, to provide a glove of this class in which the finger interconnecting member is provided with broadened portions at the intersection of adjacent fingers thereby providing a glove well tailored and form fitting for either hand;
Fourth, to provide a glove of this class which is very neat and stylish for either men or women; and
Fifth, to provide a glove of this class which is formed to fit the hand and fingers without stretching and therefore may be made of substantially non-yieldable material such as the various kinds of leather or may be made of yieldable material as desired.
Sixth, to provide a glove of this class which may be sold or distributed singly, in pairs or threes;
Seventh, to provide a glove of this class which will retain its shape to a maximum and will wear to a maximum because it may be alternately changed from right to left hand and presents different wearing surfaces;
Eighth, to provide a glove of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable and which will not readily wear or get out of shape for use on either hand.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure l is a side elevational view of my glove for either hand; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side elevational view of the main glove blank of my glove before assembly; Fig. 3 is a sectional View on an enlarged scale taken from the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the finger interconnecting member of my glove before assembly.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing:
The glove blank I- is of one :piece of material and is cut out in substantially the form'as shown in Fig. 2 of the-drawing. This blank I is provided witha symmetrical thumb forming portion la at its central portion which is arranged to be folded along the brokenlineifl 'The glove side portions lb and to are of identical form and outline and are arranged to be secured together in opposed relation to -eachother by means of the finger interconnecting member or fourchette 2 as shown best in Fig. l of the drawing. The side portions lb and lo are provided with finger outline portions Ie and Id respectively, as shown best in Fig. 2. This finger interconnecting member 2 is substantially the shape as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing and is provided with a thumb side portion 2a and a broadened portion 2b which is provided with oppositely and transversely extending curved points 20. Ihis broadened portion 21) is arranged to be positioned at the intersection 211 between the thumb and forefinger, as shown best in Fig. l of the drawing. This member 2 is also provided with reduced portions 2e which are arranged to be positioned at the tip of the glove fingers when interconnecting the sides lb and to of the glove blank I, as shown best in Figs. 1, 3 and 4 of the drawing. Positioned at the intersection points 21, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing are broadened portions 2g which are similar to theportion 20. As shown in Figure 4, the interconnecting member or fourchette 2, after interconnecting the thumb and finger portions terminates in a parallel side edge extension that connects the outer edges of the folded blank.
It will be noted that the glove, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing is of identical form and shape on both sides. Therefore it can be worn equally as well on the right hand as on the left hand.
As clearly shown, the central thumb portion extends to the bottom of the blank and separates the front and back portions of the glove the full length thereof. Thus, when the blank is folded on the medial center line of the thumb portion, it permits the thumb to be inserted in the plane of the glove throughout the full length of the folded thumb portion without passing between the front and back portions.
The broadened portion 2b being positioned between the thumb and forefinger at 2d provides a seam outline which conforms with the angular position of the thumb of either the right hand or the left hand. The broadened portions 29 of the member 2 being positioned between the fingers at the points 2 permit the bending of the fingers from the one side to the other with equal ease of manipulation in both positions when alternately worn on the right hand and the left hand.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A glove adapted to be worn on either hand comprising a one piece blank out along its upper edge to form a central symmetrical thumb portion and adjacent finger outlining portions, said central thumb portion extending to the bottom of the blank and separating the front and back portions of the glove the full length thereof, said blank being folded on the medial center line of the thumb portion to form one side edge of the glove and permitting the thumb to be inserted in the plane of the glove throughout the full length of the folded thumb portion without passing between the front and back portions, and a one piece thumb and finger connecting fourchette extending from the apex of the folded thumb portion to the diagonally opposite side of the bottom of the blank.
2. A glove adapted to be worn on either hand comprising a one piece blank out along its upper edge to form a central symmetrical thumb portion and adjacent finger outlining portions, said central thumb portion extending to the bottom of the blank and separating the front and back portions of the glove the full length thereof, said blank being folded on the medial center line of the thumb portion to form one side edge of the glove and permitting the thumb to be inserted in the plane of the glove throughout the full length of the folded thumb portion without passing between the front and back portions, a one piece thumb and finger connecting fourchette extending from the apex of the folded thumb portion to the diagonally opposite edge of the bottom of the blank, said fourchette having alternate lateral extensions and reduced portions arranged between the intersections and finger tips and terminating in a parallel side edge extension connecting the outer edges of the folded blank.
