GLOVE MANUFACTURE Filed Aug. 25, 1938 Ca?! LDunn Patented Aug. 8, 1939 UNITED STATES GLOVE MANUFACTURE Carl L. Dunn, Trion, Ga., assignor to The Trion Company, Trion, Ga., a corporation of Georgia Application August 25, 1938, Serial No. 226,652
2 Claims.
This invention relates to blank forms and assembly in hand coverings.
This invention has utility when incorporated in gloves, especially of leather, with intermediate fingers inserted for both front and back.
Referring to the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a view of the back of a glove embodying features of the invention therewith;
Fig. 2 is a view of the palm or front side of the glove of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view of the blank for the intermediate digit or third finger back;
Fig. 4 is a View of the blank for the hand back as including the index and little fingers;
Fig. 5 is a View of the blank for the second or middle finger back with the hand back extension therefrom;
Fig. 6 is a view of the blank for the palm having index and little finger fronts and thumb inside therewith;
Fig. 7 is a view of the blank of the thumb back;
Fig. 8 is a View of the blank for the insert second and third finger fronts and sides, not including the backs; and
Fig. 9 is a fragmentary View of the glove back, differing from Fig. 1 in that the stitching for the insert second and third finger backs is blind or inside instead of outside as in Fig. 1.
Palm I (Fig. 6) of the glove is shown as provided with inside thumb 2 separated by crotch 39 marker 3 from index finger .4 having fragmentary index finger side 5 and full finger side 6 on the side away from the thumb. This side 6 is separated from the palm I by line 1 extending at an angle with line 8 separating the palm I from in- 35 ner side 9 of little finger l0. Middle or second finger ll (Fig. 8) is in blank one piece with third finger l2 having the portion therebetween defined by stitch or crotch locating notch l3 in line I4 which leaves crotch portion between the sec- 40 ond and third fingers, with stitching at welt l5 (Fig. 2) to assemble thissecond and third wear facing finger fronts with the palm l and the index and little fingers, each of which has extension from the front to the hand back.
45 Herein there is provided hand back blank l6 (Fig. 4) having straight side portions I1 adjacent the wrist terminus, and therefrom extend inwardly tapering sides Hi to digit or finger portions I9, 20, between which runs severing line 2| 5 into the hand back It approximating the full extent of the finger extent therefrom. Third finger back 22 (Fig. 3) is provided with tapering hand back extension 23; middle or second finger back 24 (Fig. 5) is provided with tapered hand back extension 25 complementary to the third finger extension 23. The blank l6 may be spread and these second and third finger backs, assembled with each other by stitching 26 (Fig. 1), may be assembled into the back by stitching 21 for the glove to be completed by closing in stitching 28 after the thumb back 29 (Fig. 7) has been assembled with the thumb inside or front 2 by 5 stitching 30 (Fig. 2).
This stitching 28 accordingly extends from wrist trim 3| adjacent this thumb up over the index finger down to the crotch portion with the second finger and about the successive finger digits near the back and down the little finger side to this wrist trim 3|. This assembly stitching for insert intermediate digit or finger back is a decorative stitching as well as a stitching of assembly with resultant economy in manufacture due to the smallness of the pieces, thereby worked into the glove. This shaping into the glove is a factor not only in appearance but comfort and general glove form substantial as to wear. The decorative effect may be retained with assembly 20 between the second and third fingers effected by inner or blind stretching 32 (Fig. 9) and such pair of finger back portions assembled into the glove hand back by stitching 33. This is effected by spreading the blank l6 along the line 2| to space properly the index or first finger from the little or fourth finger. The economy of this insert back is not necessarily limited to association with insert front second and third fingers as the type of palm. The degree or extent of this saving or economy in cutting of the sheet material, as from leather, has been found to run as much as 25% or even more, in the cutting from general run of hides.
What is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The method of assembling digits in a glove comprising blanking out a pair of digit sections as a unit with an extension widening therefrom wristward and with a severing line wristward of the crotch portion between the digits, providing an additional digit section with a wristward extension, and spreading the severing line by stitching the additional digit section therein to locate the additional section between the digits of the unit.
2. The method of. assembling digits in a glove comprising blanking out a pair of digit back sections as a unit with an extension widening therefrom wristward and with a severing line wristward of the crotch portion between the digits, providing additional digit back sections with wristward extensions, and spreading the severing line by stitching the additional back sections therein to locate the additional sections between the digits of the unit.
