Description

Aug. 29, 1939. M. ATTANAslo GLOVEI POCKET CONSTRUCTION Filed June 16, 1939 Patented Aug. 29, 1939 STATLS PA'ihNT GFFLE,
3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in pocket construction ior gloves. Among the objects of the invention are to provide a glove pocket construction. which is simple and inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not detract from the smooth appearance of the gloove when worn. A further object is to provide a glove pocket construction of such a nature that it does not interfere witlfi normal movements oi the hand while the glove is being worn.
The glove pocket constructions of the prior art show the pocket arranged either on the palm side of the hand or on the back. side of the hand. This arrangement is not entirely satisfactory since when the pocket is iilled with articles such as coins, cigarettes, or toilet equipment, it forms an objectionable bulge either on the front or back of the glove, according to the position of the pocket, and has a tendency to interfere with and obstruct the normal. movements of the hands with respect to sleeves and other objects.
One of the objects of the present invention is to overcome these difficulties by arranging the pocket at the Side of the glove Without projecting it outside the limits oi' the side wall oi the glove, Where it will not normally interfere with hand movements and where the objectionable sight of a pocket bulge on the glove is eliminated.
The invention will be more fully understood by reierence to the accompanying drawing and specification which like reference characters denote like parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the glove;
Figure 2 is a cross-section thereof taken along the line ,2--2 oi Figure l; and
Figure 3 is a plan view with the pocket structure folded on the front or palm face of the glove.
As shown in Figure l, the invention comprises a ply of material which may be of cloth, leather, kid, silk, or other suitable glove material, folded upon itself to form a palm section i and a back section 2, providing iree edges of material 3 and li along one side of the glove. A gusset 5 is insorted between these 'free edges and extends along the full length thereof. he gusset is in the form of a triangular shaped insert, and portion t thereof forms the side wall of one of the nger stalls 'l of the glove, A pocket is formed in said gusset adjacent the cuff portion of the glove by stitching or otherwise fastening a back wall 3 to the gusset. The back wall 3 has an extension 9 overhangng the gusset, said extension forming a closure flap for the pocket and it is fastened thereto by means of a button lil. In the construction ot the glove, the gusset and back wall are stitched to the free edges 3 and 4 in one operation, thereby simplifying materially the construction of the glove. 5
Thus it will be seen that have provided an eX- tremely simple and eiiiciently designed pocket for gloves which, by reason of its unobstrusive arrangement, can be used on gloves for evening wear with dignity and propriety, as Well as on 10 gloves for sport and other daily wear. The are rangement or the pocket in the side wall or gusset preserves the smoothness of line and general appearance which is so essential to this type of accessory,
While the construction shown is for the purn pose of illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that changes in the construction may be made Without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the 20 appended claims.
I claim:
1. A glove pocket construction comprising a ply of material bent upon itself to form upper and lower glove sections, each section of said material 25 having a free edge extending along one side only,
a gusset extending along said side between said sections and joined to said free edges, and a pocket in said gusset, extending along said side.
2. A glove pocket construction comprising a ply 30 of material bent upon itself to form upper and lower glove sections, each section of said material having a free edge extending along one side, a gusset between said edges extending along the entire length of said side and joined to said free 35 edges along their entire length, said gusset forming the side wall of one of the fingers of said glove, and a pocket in said gusset, the back wall of the pocket having a flap extending over said gusset to form a closure for said pocket. 40
3. A glove pocket construction comprising up` per and lower body sections forming the palm and back sections, respectively, of a glove, said sections being secured to each other at least along one edge, the opposite edges being free, a gusset 45 inserted between the free edges of said material opposite said secured edge, said gusset extending along the entire length of the said free edges and being secured to and between the upper and lower free edges of said material, and a pocket in said 50 gusset, said gusset forming one wall of said pocket at the side edge of the glove.
