CORSET,
SPEGIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 730,147, dated June 2, 1903-. Application filed Iebrnary 12, 1902, seal No. 93,721. on model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, MARIE PAUL SABIN' NOTTELLE, a citizen of the French Republic, and a resident of Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a speoi fication.
This invention relates to corsets and the like, and has for its object to provide means for extending the lateral surface of their busks at the lower end. I
In order to obtain a larger, surface for producing pressure at the lower extremities of the busks of corsets, they have been provided with a trapezoidal or what is known in the art as pear-shaped form at the lower ends. These means, however, only provide a limited extension of surface, and an attempt of further enlarging the said surface would result in the production of a solid metal plate which would be objectionable by reason of its weight,'cost, and unpleasantness to wear. According to this invention an unlimited extension of the lateral surface at the lower ends of the busk is provided, while at the same time retaining the weight of an ordinary husk, by fixing to the lower end of any ordinary=shaped busk transversely-disposed strips or bands of appropriate length.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation of my device, the bus];- strips being broken away. Fig." 2 is a horizontal sectional view through the busk-strips, showing the curved extension-strips.
The drawings hereunto annexed represent the lower portion of a busk b b for corsets, to the lower extremities of which are fixed ex tension-strips or pressure-bands ZZ, secured in position by means of rivets o" 0". Obviously the length, width, and thickness of the busks as well as the sizes of the said extension-bands must vary greatly according to particular re quirements. The bands may be flat, rounded, or channeled, andthey may be straight or curved and be made of any appropriate material, such as steel, horn, whalebone, &c. The saidbands may be riveted to the inner or to the outer side of the busks or between the double parts thereof, where such are provided.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In corsets, the combination with the buskstrips, of an extension-strip secured at one end to each of the husk-strips at the lower end of the latter, and extending at or substantially at right angles to the busk-strips and being curved to conform to the shape of the body and acting to produce pressure upon the lower abdominalportion of the body of the wearer.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
MARIE PAUL SABIN NOT'IELLE.
