TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known that we, LT. R. BLAKEand J. L. JARRELL, of Dyer Sta-tion, in the county of Gibson, and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and -useful Improvement in Trusses; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionthereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The truss, as improved by the present invention, is applicable to persons of all ages and occupations, and to every description of hernia eXCePt'stranguIate'd or irreducible hernizn-and is especially adapted to congenital; hernia., from the fact that it is never rendered necexisary to remove it; and it consists of aband or belt adapted to embracing the body around the bowels, to an under strap of which belt' the hernia-pad is applied by a loop in suchmanner` as to be susceptible of adjustment both ina vertical and horizontal or lateral plane, and 'on either plane independent of the other. In-the'accompanying plate of drawings, my improvement in trusses is Figure 1 being a viewofthe same, with its several straps, bands, iSto., spread' out, and
, Figure 2 a section taken in the plane of the line ein, iig. 1.
Similar letters 'of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A, in the drawings, represents the band or belt for encircling the bodypor bowels ofthe person, and provided with a buckle-fastening, B, for adjusting it to persons of different sizes. C, a strap secured at each end` by buckles, D,.to the body-belt'or band A, from .which it extends over the perinum with a pressure-button posteriorly, this under strap being made rounded in shape. E, the hernia-pads, arranged by loops, F, to slide upon `the under -strap C, and to thus be adjusted vertically thereon, andprovided with strings Gr, for being fastened or tied in position. H, side straps, fastened at one end tothe under strap card, at the other by buckles I to thebody-belt A, whereby the'pads can be adjusted laterally-in position. The strap H, upon the rear side of the band A, assists the under strapin its conformation to the dierent motions of the body.
We claim as new, and desire tolsecureby- Letters Patent- 1. The pads, when applied to the under strap of abody-belt, substantially as and for the purpose described.V
2` The side straps H, in combination with the above, substantially 'as described for the purpose specified.v
