HOLDER FOR PHOTOGRAPHS OR OTHER CARDS.
SEECIFICATION forming part of Letterslatent No. 716974;, dated December 16, 1902..
1 Application filed May 9.190% Serial No. 106,596- (No model.)
To a/LZ whorrz/ it 17mg concern:
Beitknown that I,W1 BER R. MAGIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paulding, in the county of Paulding and State of Ohio, 5 have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders for Photographs or other Cards, of which the following is a specification My invention relates to holders for photographs and other cards; audit consists in the peculiar and advantageous holdersand means for detachably connecting the same in series hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is :5 a perspective view of three of my improved holders connected together in accordance with my invention and relatively arranged so as to stand alone on a table or other support; Fig. 2, a detail horizontal section taken in the plane indicated by the broken line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Figs. 3 and 4, vertical sections taken in the planes indicatedby the broken lines 3 3 necting the holders, removed.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings. 7
A A are my improved holders for photographs and other cards, and B B are the links through the medium of which the holders are detachably connected in a hinged or pivotal manner. The holders are similarin construction, and therefore adetailed description of one will suffice to impart an understanding of all. The said holder is formed of suitable material, such as light sheet metal, and comprises a flat body a, preferably rectangular in form, provided in its upper edge with a notch b to facilitate grasping of a photograph when it is desired to remove the same, a baseflange 0, turned upwardlyfrom the lower edge of the body'and preferably having its upper edge turned slightly outward, as indicated by d, toguide a photograph into the flange and avoid scratching of the same, and side flanges 6, turned inwardly from the vertical edges of the body and preferably upon or against the base-flange and having their free edges turned slightly outward, as indicated byf, to prevent them from scratching or otherwise marring a photograph.
When a photograph or other card. is placed in the holder described by inserting it between the flat body a and the flanges o e, as shown, it will be observed that the holder will form a frame for the photograph or card and one which is neat and attractive in appearance and is calculated to provide superior protection for the photograph or card and prevent bending or breaking of the same or marring of its edges. It will also be observed that while a photograph or other card may be readily placed in and removed from the holder there is no liability of it being .oasually displaced so long as the holder rests in an upright or a horizontal position. i
All of the links B are similar to the one shown in Fig. 5, which is formed of a singlethe other holder endwise into engagement with the lower hook of the link and. manipulates such other holder so that the upper hook of the link is received in the upper portion of its said flange 6. Any desired number of the holders may be connected together in series in the manner described, and when they are so connected it will be observed that they are susceptible of ready disconnection by reversing the operation described and yet are 0 not liable to be casually disconnected, no matter how carelessly the series may be handled. It will also be observed that when connected together, as stated, the holders may be placed at various angles to each othergdlig. 5 1, so as to stand alone on a table or other support and display the pictures they contain, and may also be folded face to face, so as to take up but a minimum amount of space in a traveling-case or in storage and at the Ice same time protect the photographs which they contain.
It will be appreciated from the foregoing that notwithstanding the advantages which they possess my improved holders are adapted to be formed of uniform blanks struck from sheet metal, and hence may be produced very cheaply; also, that the cost of the links B when formed of wire, as described, is trifling and adds but a minimum to the cost of a plurality of connected holders.
While I prefer the specific construction of holders and links described, I desire it understood that in practice such changes or modifications may be made as fairly fall within the scope of my claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. The combination with two photograph or card holders, each of which comprises a flat body, and flanges extending inwardly from opposite edges of the body; of a link for detachably connecting said holders in a hinged manner, comprising a straight portion arranged in a flange of one holder, and having hooks at its opposite ends disposed in the adjacent flange of the other holder.
2. The combination with two photograph or card holders, each of which comprises a flat body, a base-flange extending upwardly from the lower edge of the body, and side flanges extending inwardly from the side flanges of the body and upon the base-flange of a link for detachably connecting the holders in a hinged manner; the said link being formed of a single piece of wire, and comprising a straight main portion disposed in a side flange of one holder, and hooks at the ends of said straight portion engaging the ends of the adjacent side flange of the other holder.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILBER R. MAGIE.
