ADVERTISING AND BOOK-HOLDING ArPARATUs. K
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR J. LARsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Le Boy, in the county of Mower and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Advertising and Book- Holding Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined advertising and book holding apparatus and it has for its primary object to provide a device of the character set forth in which the advertising means are viewed each time the book is used.
An object of the invention is to provide an apparatus in which the book may be moved .to a position to be viewed but will be immediately returned to its normal position when the observer is finished.
Another object of the invention is to provide an apparatus, parts of which are so associated that the minimum amount of space is required.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
Referringto the drawings 1 Figure 1 is a front elevation of the apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line22 of Fig. 1.'
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1. a
Fig. 4; is a horizontal sectional view on the line 4.4 of Fig. 1 with the book in its normal position.
Fig. 5 is a View similar to'Fig. 1 showing the book in another position.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view illustrating the manner of mounting the book within the frame.
Fig. 7 is a detailed partial rear elevation illustrating the manner in which the different sized books can be accommodated.
Fig. 8is a front view illustrating .a modification of my invention whereby two books can be mounted so as to minimize space.
Referring to the drawings, numeral 1 designates a frame forming a centrally arranged rectangular opening 2. The space between the opening 2 and the marginal.
edge of the frame is subdivided into a number of advertising spaces 3 by means of the Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 11, 1917. 7 Application filed March 28, 1916. Serial No. 87,291. V I I strips 4. Each advertising section is pro vided with a glass plate 5.
Rotatably mounted in parallel walls of the opening 2 are the stub shafts 6 formed upon the end of a longitudinal bar 7 at its longitudinal edge 8. The numeral 9 designates a book of any character resting upon the bar 7 at a point adjacent its back edge 10.
Gripping the bottom edge portion 14 of the book is an L shaped bolt 15 the threaded portion of which passes through bar 7 so as to receive the nut 16.
A bolt 12 is provided which passes through a transverse hole formed in the book at a point adjacent the juncture of the back edge 10 and the top edge 11, and which passes through a longitudinal slot 18 formed in the bar 7. A nut 13 screw threaded upon the shank of said bolt engages the rear surface of bar 7 and cooperates with said bolt to clamp the book upon said bar 7. By means i of the engagement of said bolt 12 with the slot 18 books of various sizes may be accommodated.
For returning the book to its normal position and at the same time to allow the book to be moved to a position to be viewed I provide a pair of coil springs 20, each having one end secured to the bar 7 while its opposite extremity is secured to one of the walls of'the opening.
By having an apparatus constructed as set forth each time the book 9 is viewed, the
advertisements in the space 3 will be viewed adapted to pass underneath a book and engage the front surface of the book, and a second bolt adapted to pass through a hole in said book and engage the bar.
2. Ina device of the character described,
faj'ba'r, a bolt engaging whole therein 7 and In testimony whereof I afiix myv signature gage the front of the book, a second bolt engaging a slot in the bar and adapted to adapted to pass underneath a book and enin presence of two-witnesses. v
OSCAR J. LARSON.
