Description

Feb. 24, '1931. SCHWARTZ I 1,793,563
CARDBOARD DISPLAY DEVICE Filed Sept. 11, 1929 l/Y YE N TOR I 50%;: ScHW/YRT LLZM UJ S Patented Feb. 24., 1931 EUGENE SCHWARTZ, or PHILADELPHIA, "PENNSYLVANIA, Assrenoa Toimir'rER-mrms Lrrnoenarrzic rare. 00., OF PHILADELPHIA, r-snnsyrvania, a cdaronhr'ronon j rnNNsYLvANIA Application filed September This invention relates to signs and more particularly to a signiadaptedto be used,
primarily, for advertisingpurposes, and to F be very economically constructed from single sheet of heavy paper or cardboard.
The sign of the invention is intended to stand perpendicularly with respeot to the .wall, post, or other support to which it is secured. r
One ob ect of the present inventlonis to provide a signof the character under con-.
sideration in which a single blank is em ployed for forming an upright of single thickness to de aict for exam le bottles cans H. 7 7 boxes or an other article that 1b is desired to advertise. k
A further object of the present'invention is to provide a sign of the character stated inwhich a single sheet of material is employed stamped out to form a one-piece wall or like support, and, a one-piece advertising member is extended therefrom at right angles thereto and detachably secured with respect ,to the wall support by means of interlocking flaps. V
Other and further objects of the present invention reside in the provision of general details of constructionand in the arrangement and combination of parts for attaining the results sought by the foregoing objects.
The invention consists of the novel eonstruction hereinafter described and finally cla1med.-
For the purpose of illustratingmy invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof whichis at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to. be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my mvention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shownand described.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully. understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which:
, cAnDBoAnn'nIsrLaYInnv oE lock ofparts] 1 v 1 Referring to the I drawings in detail, the
sign of the invention is formed from-a single. blank and'compnsesa wall bracket 10.. ar
- ranged to be secured 11 a support, and an a'dvertising'portion' extended therefrom arranged at right angles thereto, best seen at 12 in Fig. 1. The part 12 maybe made to represen t bottles, cans,boXes, or any other'article that itqisdesired to advertise. The single web or advertising portion of the device is held in position at right angles with e va i n at e view illustrating view 'in perspective of a respect to the wall bracket 10 by means of the upper and lower. parts 13 and'lt. .These parts are each notched as at 15 to engage the notched parts 16 of the advertising web 12 and are arranged at inclination with respect to the part 1 2, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The I notched parts extend upon opposite sides of the member 12.- a 1 v Inerecting the sign; the bracket member 10 is brought to-therelation shown and then tacks, or other securing elements, are driven into a wall or like support 17. This arrange;
,ment provides a structure of considerable strength and one which will hold the main body of the sign, constituted by the web substantially perpendicular with respect to the wall or other support to which it is secured. It is much cheaper than the metal but in use of the sign. Y I am aware that the invention may be embodied in otlier'specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and I therefore desirethe present embodiment to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restricted, reference being had to the appended claims answers the samepurpose of a metal sign. It may have advertising placed uponboth sides rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of the character stated formed from a single blank of card board and folded A to provide a single elongated vertically disposed wall attachment part having a single 1 -verti'cally. disposed advertising portion e tended therefrom at right angles thereto, and
A upper and lower angularflap-s extended from said wall attachment part at anrinclination thereto, which "flaps assume a substantially V-relation-ship with respectto said wall attachment part for engaging said advertising portion at its top and bottom edges to main-- stain same at right .angles with respect to said a wall attachment 'part. p g
2. A device of the character stated formed 2o V a from a single blank of cardboard and folded 1 upper and lower oppositely disp'osed angular v I flaps extended from said wall attachment part v a to provide awsingle elongated vertically disposed wall vattachment part having a single vertically disposed advertising portion extended therefrom at right angles thereto, and
at an inclination thereto for engaging said advertising portion to maintain the same at. 7 right angles wlthrespect to said wall attachment part, sa1d angular incllned flaps and said advertising portions eachhaving their edges notched for co-operative engagement, said flaps in theirinterlocked position assuming in cross-section substantially V-relationship with respect to said wall attachment part.
