DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed May 15, 1924.
This invention relates to display devices, and has for its object to provide a device of the character specified, simple in construction, economical to manufacture and effective and reliable when erected for use.
To these ends and others which will appear later herein my improvements comprise features illustrated in their preferred embodiment in the drawing accompanying this specification, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective front view of my improved device in erected position with an article for display carried thereby. Fig. 2 is a sectional end elevation on line 2, 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line 3, 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the device is made. Fig. 5 is a plan view of a modified form of blank. Fig. 6 is a vertical section of a further modification of the device. The scale of Figs. 2, 3, 4 and 6 is equal, the scale of Fig. 1 is about one and one-half times that of the earlier mentioned figures and the scale of Fig. 5 is about half that of Fig. 1.
My improved device is preferably made of cardboard and comprises front member 4:, which may be flat and may have a fanciful and pleasing outline, the lower edge 5 of which is adapted to rest on any suitable support such as a table or counter. Said front member has opening 6 therethrough for the reception of an article for display, protruding through said opening such as carton 7. The shape of opening 6 preferably conforms to the outline of the article for display and in Figs. 1 and l the shape is shown as rectangular, while in Fig. 5 the outline of said opening is that of the profile of a bottle to be displayed. It will be obvious that other shapes may be used as required.
A support for said front member is formed from the material 8 cut from within opening 6, said material being attached at its lower edge to the lower edge of said opening at 9 and scored therealong for folding. Said edge 9 is preferably parallel with bottom edge 5 of front member 4. Other folding linesas 10, 11, 12 of Fig. 4, parallel with 9; are provided transversely of material Serial No. 713,424.
8 and preferably dividing said material into a plurality of substantially equal panels 18, 14, 15, 16, which are folded into a transverse tubular member T, the upper panel 16 being secured against the back of front member 4, below opening 6. lVhen a four paneled tubular member is used, said member may be collapsed and folded. against front member 1 for packing in small space. In some cases it is desirable to use a three panel tubular member T as in Fig. 6, in which case said tubular support remains in erected position and cannot be collapsed.
For maintaining the tubular member of Figs. 1, 2 and 3 inerectcd position, rectangular wing 17, of known construction, is cut from one of the panels or walls of said tubular member, as wall 15. Said wing 17 remains attached to said wall along folding line 18, being severed from said wall along its other three lines. Said wing is of suflicient width to abut against opposite walls 14 and 16 and thus, when swung inwardly, see Fig. 3, sustains tubular member T in erected position. Wall 13 of support T, when the device is erected, serves as a table for the support of an article displayed within opening 6.
I claim:
1. A display device including in combina tion an upstanding front member having an opening therethrough, the edges of said opening adapted to frictionally support an article protruding transversely through said opening, the material cut from said opening being articulated to the lower edge thereof and folded into tube parallel to said edge, one side of said tube forming a base and support for said front member, another side of said tube being secured against the back of said front member, another side of said tube being adapted to support said article in said opening.
2. A display device including in combination an upstanding front member having an opening therethrough, the edges of said opening being adapted to frictionally support an article protruding transversely sparring, the material from 7 said opening being articuhlled to the lower edge thereof and folded mio a tube parallel to sa1d edge, one Sldt) 0t sald tube lormmg a base and support for said front member, an-
other side of said tube being secured against the back of sad front member, another slde of sald tube bemg adapted to support sald article in said e m-rung, and a wing artieu lated to one side of and adapted to sustain said tube in erected condition. W
In Witness whereof, I hereby afilx my signature this 13 day of May, 19%.
JOSEPH L. VISCOUNT.
