Beit known that we, ANDREW F. FLATLEY, residing at Irvington, and JOHN M. ARTHUR, residing at East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Extension-Table; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains tomake and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The objects of this invention are to provide an extension-table which can be used for dining, playing cards, or any of the uses to which tables are commonly put; to provide such a table having a middle leaf which when removed can be set up as an auxiliary stand or table; to enable the entire table-top to be removed and set upon a temporary frame or support specially provided, the body of the table being adapted to be then opened to form a shuflie-board, ninepin-alley, or the like; to secure a simple and practical construction, and to secure other advantages and results, some of which maybe referred to hereinafter in connection with the description of the working parts.

The invention consists in the improved combination extension-table and in the arrangements and combinations of parts of the same, all substantially as will be hereinafter set forth and finally embraced in the clauses of the claim.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several figures, Figure l is a plan of the body part of our improved table with the top mostly broken away. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the table with the top off. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line y, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is aplan of the body of the table opened to form a shuffle-board, ninepin-alley, or the like; and Figs. 5 and 6 are vertical sections of the same on lines a and 2 Fig. 4:, respectively.

In said drawings, a a indicate legs connected by a top plate a and bottom brace a two pairs of such legs being provided to support the body part of our improved table at its opposite ends, as is common in tables. Said body consists of a rectangular framework (referring particularly to Figs. 1 and 3) divided into two longitudinal halves b I), each forming a sort of shallow box-or trough open at the topand having aclosed bottom. -One of these halves, as b, is rigidly attached at its ends to the opposite pairs of the legs of the table, while the other, I), is hinged to the first by its adjacent side at one end, as at c, and adapted to be swung around in a horizontal plane through one hundred and eighty degrees to lie in alinement with the first-ment'ioned half I), as shown in Fig. 4. The two ends of the table-body halves b 1), adapted to be brought together as above described, are open, so that when said halves are brought into endwise alinement their interiors form one long chamber or trough. This chamber or trough we have adapted in our invention to be used as a shuffle-board or ninepin-alley by providing the bottom of the same with a raised course or way 6, upon which balls can be rolled or the like.

To support the swinging half or section b of the table-body when swung around into alinement with thestationary part b, we extend, as at d, the top plate a of that pair of legs upon which the hinged ends of the tablebody sections rest, so that a ledge is provided for the inner end of said swinging half to rest upon, as shown in Fig. 4. To support the outer end, the table is provided with auxiliary or center legs f, extending downward from a connecting-piece g, pivoted at one end, as at g, to the under side of the swing ing half or section of the table-body. When said swinging section of the table-body is in normal position, the connecting-piece g of the said legs lies lengthwise of the said section; but when the swinging section is extended said connecting-piece and auxiliary legs are turned to lie crosswise of the section, as shown in Fig. 4.

To hold the two halves or sections of the table-body together when closed, we employ a connecting-rod h, which extends beneath 100 the table and hooks at its opposite ends over downwardly-projecting studs or pins h at the opposite outer sides of the sections, the end of each stud being bent horizontally to form a rest 77 to prevent the hooked rod dropping off. When the two table halves or sections are turned into alinement, this connectingband h may be disposed at the side thereof overlapping the joint to hold them in alinement, as in Fig. 4.

Counters 2' are preferably provided upon the upper edges of the sections or halves of the table-body.

Having thus described the invention, what we claim as new is 1. A game-table having supporting-legs, a body comprising sections hinged together to swing in horizontal plane, said sections being adapted to lie side by side or be extended into end-to-end alinement, and a locking-bar for securing said sections in either of said positions. v

2. A game-table having supporting-legs, a body comprising a section b, stationary upon said legs and a second section Z), hinged to said first section b, to swing in horizontal plane with respect to the stationary section, and an auxiliary supporting leg or standard pivoted to swing horizontally upon the under side of said swinging section near its edge next the stationary section, said auxiliary support being pivoted eccentrically and adapted to be turned either to lie wholly beneath the swinging section or to project beneath the stationary section.

A game-table having end-supporting legs, a body comprising independent troughlike sections normally lying side by side and being hinged together at one end, each section being open at its hinged end and one section being fixed to the supporting-legs and the other adapted to swing in a horizontal plane, and an auxiliary leg having a horizontheir opposite ends upon said opposite pairs of legs, said sections being hinged together at one end to swing horizontally and one seetion being fixed to the said legs, each section I having an upwardly projecting marginal flange extending around its upper side except at the hinged end, whereby when extended the two sections provide a long troughlike game-board, and a removable table-top adapted to cover said sections when closed.

5. The herein-described combination game and dining table, comprising relatively fixed supporting-legs, horizontally-disposed bodysections normally arranged side by side upon said legs, and being hinged together at two adjacent ends to swing in horizontal plane and one being fast to said legs, said sections being recessed or trough-like at the top and open at their hinged ends, whereby they may be extended into a long game-board, auxiliary supporting-legs eccentrically pivoted to the free section to swing horizontally and adapted to be turned either inward beneath said section or outward to project therefrom and an independent dining-top adapted to be laid over said hinged sections when closed.
