COMBINED ADVERTISING MATCH-BOX AND CIGAR-TIP CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 706,987, dated August 12, 1902. Application filed December 2, 1901I Serial No. 84,346. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM .R. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eden, in the county of Erie andState of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Advertising Match-Box and Cigar-Tip Cutter; and I do doclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a combination advertising m atch-box and cigar tip cutter; and the object of the invention is to provide a match-box having a threefold purposenamely, first, a receptacle for holding matches; secondly, a provision for cutting off the tips of cigars, and, thirdly, an advertising medium for whatever may be desired to display upon the sides thereof.

Referring by letter to the drawings, A designates a rectangular match-box having the usual top flange a and provided with aspringcatch B and a push-pin O, secured to the lower portion of the catch B and passed through an aperture 0 at the front portion and top of the box.
D designates a short arm of curvilinear form secured to or formed integral with the box upon one side and near the rear portion of the same, having an aperture d in its free end for a purpose which will be hereinafter explained. V
E designates a lid or cover hinged to the top and rear portion of the box by means of a hinge-pin e in the usual manner, this hingepin having secured thereto or provided with a coiled spring F, through the medium of which the cover or lid is opened and closed as desired.
G designates a slot corresponding in form to the short arm D and which is formed in and upon thev same side of the cover as the short arm D upon the box and within which the short arm engages, the arm serving as a guide for the slot.
II designates a double cutting-blade secured to the inner side of the cover and arranged at right angles to or across the slot G, so that the opening or closing of the lid of the box clips off the tip of the cigar when it is passed through the aperture of the curvilinear short arm, as shown clearly in Fig. l of the drawings.

In a match-box of the character described, the same being provided with the curvilinear short arm integral with the wall thereof having an aperture in its free end, the cover having a corresponding slot therein adapted to be closed by said arm, a double-edged cutting-blade secured to the inner side of the cover and located across said slot, whereby the tip of a cigar may be clipped ofi when passed through the aperture in the arm by said blade, in opening or in closing the cover, and vertically-arranged strips secured to the side of the box, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
