TIP-CUTTING ATTACHMENT FOR ClGAR-BOXES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,105, dated July 14,1885;

Be it known that I, IsIDoR C. IsTEL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tip-Cutting Attachments for Cigar-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has reference to an improved tip-cutting attachment for cigar-boxes, by which the tips may be readily cut off and collected in a suitable receptacle in the box.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view of a cigar-box with my improved tip-cutting attachment. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the cigar-boX with parts broken away. Fig. 3 is a vertical section onliue x w, Fig. 2.

Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.

A in the drawings represents the body of a cigar-box, and B the lid of the same. One of the walls of the body A is provided with a conical hole, c, for inserting the tip of the cigar. Back of the hole a is attached to the wall a cutting-plate, b, having a beveled upper edge for guiding the cutting-knife toward the tip. A cutter, C, is rigidly attached to the `lid B, and so arranged as to pass along the perforated cuttingplate b and cut oii` the tip projecting through the opening a to the insideA of the body A. A partition, A', is arranged at the inside of the boX parallel to that Wall on which the tip-cutting attachment is arranged, said partition forming,with the'walls of the body, areeeptacle for collecting the tips cut off from the cigars. The receptacle formed 3 5 by the partition is closed by a top strip, A2, which rests on the partition A', and has a recess, d, at that point where the cutter C passes through-the top strip, A,

The tip-cutting attachment can be furnished 4o at a low rate, owing to its simplicity of constrcution, and cuts off the tips of the cigars inserted into the hole simply by pressing on the lid in closing the same,whilc it collects the tips at the same time in the interior receptacle of the cigar-box.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl The combination of a cigar-box having a conical perforation in one of its walls, a perforated cutting-plate attached to the inside of said wall, a cutter attached to thelid, a partition parallel to the side Wall on which the cutting attachment is arranged, and a top strip having a recess at the point where the cutter passes through the same, substantially as set forth.
