To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER WEISS, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cigar- Vending Humidors, as set forth in the annexed specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in cigar vending humidors, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective devicev of this character, whereby an entire box of cigars including the box may be placed in the humidor and the whole tightly sealed or closed, so that the moisture within the humidor will be prevented from escaping, and thus keeping the cigars contained in the box in good condition untilthe entire box of cigars has been sold. Y

A further object of the invention is to provide a cigar vendinT humidor having a body consisting of suitable inclosed walls, an upwardly projecting chamber at the rear of the body and two lids or closing leaves hinged thereto, one of the closure leaves adapted to close the rear of the body and upwardly projecting chamber, but leaving the upper end of said chamber opened,

through which projects the lid of the cigar box when a box containing cigars is placed in the humidor.

Another object of the invention is to provide in combination a humidor adapted to hold a cigar box with cigars therein, said humidor having a lid which may be readily opened by the storekeeper, so that the cigars may be sold directly from the humidor, a cigar perforator on one end thereof and a match safe or holder.l

A still further object of the invention is to provide a cigar vending humidor in which the ordinary cigar box in which cigars are sold with the cigars therein may be placed in the body ofthe humidor with the lid of the ordinary cigar box projecting outside of the body of the humidor, so that the trade mark or other advertising matter on the lid of the cigar box may be readily seen.

With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.

In order lthat those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may under stand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved cigar vending humidor showing a box of cigars therein.

5 and 6 have projections 7 rising therefrom at the rear ends, to which is secured a front wall 8 arcuate in shape or cutaway as plainly shown in Fig. l for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The front wall 4 and one of the end walls as 5 are provided with transparent panels 9, such as glass. To the body at the rear end thereof is hinged a lid 10 as at 11, and this lid is provided with a handle 12 projecting rearwardly to a point in back of and above the body of the humidor, whereby the lid lO may be readily and quickly raised, and this lid is provided with a transparent panel 13 such as glass.

To the bottom wall 8 of the body at the rear edge thereof is hinged a leaf 14 as at 15, said leaf having a portion thereof projecting at an angle to the main part to form'anextension 16, said extension being situated between the two extensions 7 of the side walls of the body and lying parallel with the wall Si, so that when the leaf 14 is closed, a chamber 17 is formed which projects upwardly from the body at the rear thereof, and said chamber is in communication with the interior of the body. In order that the leaf 14 may be held in its closed position I provide the same with a suitable fastening device such as a hook 18 engaging a pin 19.

When the humidor is in use a cigar box 20' with the cigars therein is placed in Vthe body of the humidor, and the lid or cover 21 of the cigar box is placed within the chamber 17 in a raised position, so that said lid projects out of said chamber, and considerably above the same, said chamber being open at the top.

lIn order that the humidor may be tightly closed or sealed, I provide the front wall 8 of the chamber 17 with a rib 22 against which rests the front face of the cigar box cover 2l, and a similar rib 23 is formed upon the hinged leaf 14 and is adapted to engage the rear face of the cigar box cover.

21. The humidor is supported by suitable legs 24, the rear ones being of greater length than the forward ones, so that the humidor is held in a tilted position, thereby permitting persons to readily see the goods displayed.

The end wall 6 is solid and is preferably formed of metal, as are the other walls of the humidor, and on the inner face of this wall 6 is secured a pair of parallel tracks 25 in which are adapted to slide the flanges 26 of the moistener casing, said casing adapted to contain a suitable absorbent material for holding a liquid, such as water, whereby the air in the humidor will be moistened and the cigars maintained in a proper moistened condition.

The end wall 6 is also provided with a number of outwardly projecting bosses 28 through which screws 29 are threaded into one of the walls of the cigar perforator 30, the same consisting of side walls 31 and a bottom wall 32 and a top wall 33 having an opening 34 therein. To the top wall 33 are secured a numberv of rods 35 depending therefrom and having enlargements 36 on the lower ends. On these rods is adapted to slide the inverted conical shaped holder 37 having a hole 38 in its apex into which is adapted to project the point perforator 39 when the holder 37 is forced downward against the action of the Vsprings 40 coiled about the rods 35 and engaging the enlargements 36 and the flange of the holder 37. The perforator 39 projects upwardly from the bottom wall 32 and is securely fixed in position, so as to remain stationary.

When it is desired to perforate a cigar the end 'thereof is inserted in the holder 37 which prevents the wrapper of the cigar from cracking or splitting, and by bringing a certain amount of pressure to bear upon the cigar the holder 3.7 will be forced downward against the action of the springs 40, so as to cause said holder andthe cigar to pass .over the perforating pin 39 and pierce the end of the cigar. As soon as the pressure upon the holder- 37 is released by the removal Vof the cigar, the springs 40 will again return said holder to its normal position at the upper end of the perforator casing.

.To some suitable part of the perforator casing may be secured the match holder or safe 41, so that a purchaser of a cigar may remove a match and strike the same upon the serrations 42.

In practice the cigar vending humidor is placed upon the counter or show case of a store and the box of cigars placed therein with the cover .21 of the cigar box projecting out of the open end of the chamber 17. Because of the arcuate shape of the upper edge of the front wall 8 of the chamber 17, none of the advertising matter upon the cigar box is hidden, and a person entering the store can readily read the same, and a probable purchaser will be able to identify the goods in the humidor by said advertising matter upon the cigar box cover.

When a. purchaser wishes to purchase a cigar it is only necessary for the storekeeper to press the handle 12 downward which will raise the lid 10 and open the humidor, so that the purchaser may pick out the cigar desired from the contents of the cigar box.

Whenv the cigar box is empty the same may be readily removed by opening the closure leaf 14 and swinging the-same downward, thus simultaneously opening both the body and chamber 17, so as to permit the withdrawal of the cigar box, and after said cigar box is removed it may be readily replaced by another one.

0f course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, dis- 1; A cigar vending humidor consisting of a body comprising a bottom, a transparent front wall, a transparent end wall and a solid end wall, extensions projecting upwardly from they side walls of the body, a front wall having an arcuate upper edge secured to said extensions thereby forming a chamber open at its upper end, a transparent lid hinged to the upper portion of the body at the rear thereof, a'handle projecting therefrom, a. leaf hinged to the bottom of the body at the rear thereof, an extension formed with said leaf lying parallely with the front wall of the chamber when the leaf is closed, and means for fastening said leaf in a closed position.
