NEWV HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORA- PACKAGE FOR WATER-BOTTLES, WATER-BAGS, 800.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 706,330, dated August 5, 1902.
Application filed April 1, 1902. Serial No. 100,967. (No model.)
To ttZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD E. MENGES, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Packages for water-Bottles,Water-Bags, &c. and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a [0 full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-- Figure 1, a perspective view of a package for water-bottles, water-bags, &e., constructed in accordance with my invention and in its closed position; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the same open; Fig. 3, a vertical sectional view of the package in its open position; Fig. 4, an enlarged sectional view through a portion of the cover, illustrating the manner of connecting the ribbon-h older therewith; Fig. 5, a similar view showing a metal clamp, which may be substituted for the ribbonholder shown in the preceding figures,
a5 This invention relates to an improvement in packages for water-bottles, water-bags, &c.i. e., rubber bottles, which are provided with stoppers and used as means for applying heat or cold, or rubber bags, such as 0 formed particularly of fountain syringes.
The object of the invention is to form an attractive package in which the bag will be supported for transportation and in which it may be exhibited and one in which the bag or bottle may be thoroughly examined without detaching it from its package; and'the in-' vention consists in the construction as will be hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claims.
40 As herein shown, the package consists of a rectangular box A of suitable size and a cover B, hinged thereto. Preferably the depth of the cover at its forward edge C corresponds to the depth of thebox A, and pref- 5 erably the sides D taper from the forward edge rearward. The sides of this cover are connected with the sides of the box by a strip E, of ribbon or other suitable material, which will hold the cover in an upright position. To the inside of the cover, and preferably at about its center, is a holder F, herein represented as a strip of ribbon, which is passed through a label G, which is securely fastened into the cover and so that the ends of the ribbon are free and capable of being tied about the neck of a water-bottle H, syringebag, or other similar device.
Aside from the connection of the bag or bottle at its neck with the cover the bag or bottle is free and can be lifted out of the box for examination. As the cover is turned down the bottle is folded upon itself and a compact package thereby produced.
The ribbon employed for supporting the bag or bottle corresponds with or harmonizes in color with the ribbon which supports the cover and with the paper lining of the box and the ornamentation of the label, so that a particularly-attractive package is produced in which the bottles may be shipped, ex-
hibited in stores, and delivered to customers.
Insteadof employing a ribbon-holder for supporting the bottle ametal clasp I may be employed, as indicated in Fig. 5, and it is also apparent that the sides of the cover might-be of uniform width, although for attractiveness of appearance I prefer the inclined sides.
I am aware that display-boxes comprising two members hinged together have been arranged, so that one member may be held in an elevated position. I am also aware that bodies of boxes have been arranged to fold upon themselves, so that articles longer than the box proper may be fully exposed, and therefore do not wish to be understood as claiming, broadly, such as my invention.
Having fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 9o 1. A package for water-bottles, 850., comprising a box and a cover hinged to its upper edge at one end thereof, said cover formed with sides adapted to overlap the sides of the box when the cover is closed, the sides of the 5 said cover connected with the box, and a clamp secured to the inner face of the cover to support the neck of the bottle, the main portion of which rests in the box, substantially as described.
2. A package for water-bottles, 850., comprising a. box, a cover hinged thereto at one end, means connecting the cover and box for supporting the cover in a raised position, the sides of said cover tapering from its forward edge rearward, a holder and a label secured to the inner face of the top of the box and connecting the holder thereto said holder adapted to support a water-bottle by its neck 1 whereby the bottle may rest in the box and m be otherwise free, substantially as described. In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
