TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, THOMAS RASEE, of Geneseo, in the county ot' Henry, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spring-Beds; and I do hereby declare that the following -is a. full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of the invention consists in the construction of a. spring-bed which will be durable, cheap in its manner of construction, easy to adjust, and at the same time s'ecure to the occupant health, ease, end comfort.
I To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, Iwill proceed to describe its construction and operation. i
Figure 1 in the accompanying drawings istJ perspective view of all parts attached.
Figure 2 is a section through the boxingor casting C and that part of the pole'or bolster B at the points of bearing on the rubber bands D.
I make my bedstead or frames in any of the known forms, having suicient width or depth-of rail to apply or attach my improvement, as shown at AIA in iig. 1. I make the boxing C out of cast iron, with a round bar on a line with the slugs or projections through which the upper screws pass, this bar being one of the points of bearingfor the rubber bands D D, as shown in figs. 1 and 2. I make the bottom of the boxings or castings bevelling, for the purpose of strength, as also to accommodate the inclining position of the rubber bands, as shown in fig. 2. On the inside of both of theirails A A I insert or let in four or more'of the castings C, so that they are Hush with the outer surface ofthe rails, as 'shown at A in igf2. I fasten my castings Ito the rails by means oi' screws, as shown in fig. 2. I make the pole B out ot' any suitable timber, rounding the points of bearing for the reception of' the bands D D, as shown in figs. I and 2. Iformthe rings or connection in the rubber bands by first passing the end around the rounded bar in the casting, and, lapping' the ends thereof, fasten them together by means of rivets or eyelets. The pole can then be passed through and taken out at will. In order to hold the poles and slats E to their places, and prevent the poles from rubbing the side rails, Sto., I dovetail the poles and the two en'dslats together, as shown at one point in lig. 1.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by'Lettex-s Patent, is-
The boxing or castings C and poles B B, in combination with the rubber bands and slatsrD and E, as
described.
THOMAS RASER.
