IMPROVED BEDSTEAD FASTENING.

TQ ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, vGrnoRGE SUGG and WILLIAM METZ, both of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful improvements in fBedst'ead Fastenings and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exaetdeseription thereof, reference being had tb the aceompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a longitudinal section of fastenings and rails.
Figure 2 the front Viewl of the female fastening and side view of the male fastening; and
Figure 3 the side view of the female and the front view of the male fastenings. p
Similar letters of reference in each of the-several figures indicate corresponding parts of the fastenings.
The nature of our invention consists in making *the side-rail or male fastening plain and of uniform thick ness, with Hanges projecting to hook it on; this improvement having an object of fixing said fastenings into the rails quickly-and conveniently. v
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use ourinvention, we will proceed to describe its construction and operation. l l
The back of the female fastening A has a shape 'of a curveV described with the radius of a circular saw, generally used at the furniture shops, and of any diameter; the ends B B, into theholes of which, C C, enter the screws to secure fastening, remaining square; slot D being arranged in a usual way, as also Hanges al d insidehof the fastening. The side rail or male fastening E is made of uniform thickness, with projecting ilanges' F F to hook it into the female fastening A. The male part o-f the fastening E is constructed with two arms O projecting at right :ingles from the body E, and terminating in two circular heads` I, as shown clearly in iig. 2. To attach this to the side rail, it is only necessary to bore a couple of holes Vin the side of the railof proper size to receive the heads I, and then eut straight recessesfrom those points to the end of the rail and fit the fasteningE therein, as shown in fig. 1. By these means the fastening is secured very firmly to the rail at two separate points, and is securely held from pulling out by the'heads I, a block Aor cleatbeing glued orV screwed over it to keep it from being displaced sidewise as usual with fastenings of this style. The piece A is set into the head rail so as to have its straight side G come Hush with the side of the rail, while the piece E is set into the side rail so as to have the wood como up to the line H H. v
The advantages of our fastenings are that the female piece being shaped as the segment of a circle the groove in the head rail to put it in may be outout with a set of circular saws very quickly, and only small spaces'for the'ends B B have to be chiselled out; also themale piece being of uniform thickness may be readily put on.
What We claim as our invention, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- As'a new article of manufacture the bed fastening, consisting of the plate A, constructed as herein described,
i and used in combination with the plate E, provided with the arms O, with the enlarged heads I, as herein set forth.
GEO. SUGG, WM. METZ.
