Description

waited ndert- 'atent @Win12,
Letters Patent No. 90,776, dated .Time l, 1869.
` IMPROVED BEDSTEAD-FASTENING.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may conce-rn:
Be it known that I, THOMAS OKEEFE, of Appleton, in the county of Outagamie, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and improved Bedstead-Fastening; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had Vto the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improve Inents'in metallic fastenings, for fastening the side rails of bedsteads to the ends, whereby it is designed to provide a simple and cheap fastening-device, capable of ready attachment or detachment.
It consists of metal plates for screwingou to the face of the posts, or side rails having two or more hooks, projecting at right angles from the faces at one edge, to be used in pairs, one on the post, with the hooks facing upward, and the other on the side rail, with the hooks facing downward, and so arranged that the hooks of the plate on the rail will engage with and be supported by those on the post, all as hereinafter more fully specified.
Figure 1 represents a section of the end of a bedstead, connected by iny improved fastenings taken on -the line x-x of g. 2.
Figure 2 represents a section taken through the side rail on the line y-y of fig. 1. v
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents plates of metal, preferably made by casting, and provided 4,with hooks B, projecting at right angles, at or near one edge.
These plates are provided with countersunk screwholes, for fastening to the post or rail.
Similar hooked plates are employed, both for the side rails and the ends of the bedsteads, and they are so applied that the hooks on the supporting-'post face upward, as shown at C, iig. 1, while those on the part .which is supported, face downward. l
In putting a bedstead together with these fastenings, the hooks of the side rails are engaged with those on the post, so as to rest thereon.
Care is-taken to place thefplates of the side rails f so far from the ends that the latter will be wedged snugly against the posts when the hooks are pus -ed together, the latter being so shaped as'to draw or f,
wedge suiiciently for the purpose.
These hooked platesV or fastenings may be all cast from one pattern, and are interchangeable.
rlhey require no holes, mortises, or recesses to be made in the wood, to weaken it, or `to form nests for vermin.
Having' thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A The improved bedstead-fastening plates A, provided with hooks B C, and' otherwise arranged and applied, as specified.
`Witnesses: THOMAS OKEEFE.
