SHOE-POLISHER.

boots or shoes or other articles; and to this end my improved polisher comprises a rigid block or backing, preferably of wood, to which is permanently attached a cushion of suitable material, preferably felt, covered by a strip of cloth, felt, or othersuitable polishing material removably attached to the rigid block or backing. In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved polisher. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view with the fastening devices for I the coverlng-strip detached or unlocked.

Referring to the drawings, A denotes the body of the polisher, consisting, preferably, of a block of wood, and to which is permanently attached, as by tacks or otherwise, a cushion B, consisting, preferably, of a thick piece of felt. To one end'of the block A is pivotally attached, as by tacks a, a wire loop or clip I), the ends of which are coiled around the tacks a. The block or body A is provided in its upper side near one end with a transverse groove c, and hinged or loosely attached at oneend to the said block or body'adjacent to said groove is a transverse latch D, consisting, preferably, of a piece of wire provided at one end with an eye engaging a staple d and having at its other end a U-shaped bend g, beyond which bend the said wire latch is preferably extended in the form of a coil h to form a finger piece for the convenient manipulation of the said latch. The groove 0 is preferably undercut or inclined toward the end of the block or body near which the said groove is located. Pivotally attached, as by a tack e, to the block or body A is a locking catch or hook f, arranged to engage the U-shaped bend of the said locking-latch and hold the same in place when desired.

Removably attached-to the body orblock A and overlying or covering the cushion B is a flexible strip E of cloth or other suitable polishing material, the said strip or cover E being removably attached to the block or body of the polisher by being looped upon the loop or pivoted wire clip bin folded or doubled condition and then having its doubled free holding clip or loop b, which retains it at one end over the cushion B and over the end of the block or body A near which the groove 0 is formed in such a manner as to overlie the said groove. The free end of the said strip is then secured to the blocker body A I by turning down the locking-latch D into the position shown in Figs 1 and 2 and then by securing said latch in place by the hook f.

isher to or from which a removable strip of cloth or other suitable material can be quickly and easily applied or removed and on the rigid. body of which the strip'referred to can be stretched and held taut and smooth. The inclined transverse groove 0 facilitates stretching and holding taut the removable polishing-strip, as will be readily understood. It will be obvious that the doubled or folded flexible strip E may be changed and reversed in such a manner that all four faces of the said doubled or folded strip may be used, which is desirable from an economical point of View.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a polisher, the combinationwith a rigid block or body having a cushion permanently attached to one face thereof, of a loop or clip near one end of said block or body, a transverse locking-latch hinged at one end to said block or body near the other end thereof, and a doubled or folded strip of flexible material removably attached to said block or body by the said loop or clip (over which said strip is folded) and said locking-latch, said strip being arranged to cover the said cushion.

2. In a polisher, the combination with the block or body provided with a permanentlyattached cushion and with a transverse groove near one end of said block or body, of a clip pivotally attached to the said block or body near the other end thereof, a transverse locking-latch hinged or loosely attached at one of its ends to the said block or body near the said transverse groove and provided with a locking-bend, a hook or catch for looking the said latch in place, and a flexible strip or coverfor the said cushion re lnovably attached to the said block or body by means of the said clip and locking-latch.

3. In a polisher, the combination with a rigid block or body A provided near one end with a transverse undercut or inclined groove 0, of the cushion B permanently secured to one face of said rigid block or body a Wire clip I) pivotally attached to the block or body near the other end thereof, a transverse locking-latch D hinged or loosely attached at one of its ends to the block or body and provided at or near its other end with a U -shaped bend g and a finger-piece h beyond said bend, a pivoted hook or catch 2 for securing said locking-latch in place, and a flexible cover for the said cushion rem ovably attached to the block or body by means of said clip and lockinglatch.

4:. In a polisher, the combination with a rigid block or body having a cushion permanently attached at one face thereof, of a loop or clip at or near one end of said block or body, a transverse locking-latch at or near the other end thereof, and a doubled or folded strip of flexible material removably attached to said block or body by the said loop or clip and said looking-latch, said strip being arranged to cover the said cushion.
