JULIUS P. WILDER, OF WILLIS, KANSAS, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO F. C. HILL, OF WILLIS, KANSAS.
DOOR'SEGURER.
. SPECIFICATION forming para of Letters Patent No. 692,575, date. February 4, 1902.
Application led April 26, 1901. Serial No. 57,603. (No model.) i
T0 a/ZZ whom it may concern: y
Be it known that I, JULIUs P. WILDER, a citizen of the United States, residin g at Willis, in the county of Brown and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Securers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artl to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain improvements in what are termed in the art as door securers or fasteners.
It has lfor its object mainly to effectively secure the door as against being involuntarily or clandestinely forced open after having been secured, and to provide for doing this readily and in a simple manner and at the minimum'cost.
It consists of a bent-ended or pointed bar or plate having a lateral loop or keeper at its opposite end .in combinationwith a set or binding screnT armed slide also having a lateral loop or keeper and a number of additional or packing strips, one, preferably, havingalongitudinal slot, said slide being adapted to bind upon or abut against the door, substantially as hereinafter more fully disclosed, and specifically pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure l is a view showing the sam'ewith the parts elongated or extended. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof as applied for use. Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken through the slide, having the set or binding screw and lateral loop or keeper.
Latitude is allowed herein as to details, as they may be changed or varied at will without departing from the spiritof 4my invention and the same yet remain intact and be protected.
In carrying out my invention I employ a securing bar or plate l, with one end bent or pointed, as at l, to stand at a right angle, which is designed to engage or be embedded in the door-casing. The plate or bar 1 has a lateral loop or keeper 1'J at its opposite end to contain or receive a number of additional platesorstrips2 2:L 2* in addition to the plate portion of the slide 4, presently more fully described. The plates or strips 2 21L 2b serve as packing, applied as pointed out hereinafter, the normallyouter ends of two of which, 2 2, are slightly bent, as at 2c 2d, to limit their movement in one direction, the other of said plates 0r strips 2bhaving a longitudinal slot 2e, the function of which will appear presently'.
A slide 4, relatively thickened for a portion of its length, as indicated,` has a lateral loop or keeper 4 at one end of said thick portion,
while it has a plate portion or extension All terminatingits loop-provided end, as shown. Said slide is also armed or provided with a set 'or binding screw 5, adaptedl to pass through the slot 2e of the packing plate or strip 2b and to engage and hold the adjoining or next packing-strip, it in turn under the action of said screw holding the third packing-strip in position. Said additional plates or packing-strips 2 2212b are provided next to their normally inner ends, upon one edge, with shoulders or stops 2f, engaging the edge of the slide loop or keeper 4a, to aid in preventing their endwise displacement.
It will be observed that the bent or right-4 angled pointed terminal l of the bar or plate l first being applied to and held against the door-casing (indicated in dotted lines in the drawings) by now closing the door said pointed terminal will be forced or embedded into ythe wood of the door-casing, one or more of l. A door-securer, comprising a fastening bar or plate havinga lateral loop, and a slide provided with a lateral loop or keeperadapted IOO to receive said fastening-bar and said slide, itself, adapted to be received by the loop of said fastening-bar, and means for securing said fastening-bar and slide in position, substantially as set forth.
2. A doorseeurer, comprising a fastening bar or plate having a loop or keeper, a slide provided with a lateral loop or keeper and beyond said loop with a plate portion or eX- tension extending through the loop of said fastening-bar, the loop of said slide receiving said fastening-bar, said slide also having a set or binding screw and packing-strips interposed between said fastening-barand slide, substantially as set forth.
3. A door-seeuier, comprising a fastening bar or plate having a loop or keeper, a slide provided with a lateral loop or keeper and beyond said loop with a plate portion or eX- tension extending through the loop of said fastening-bar, the loop of said slide receiving said fastening-bar, said slide also having a set or binding screw and packing-strips interposed between said fastening-bar and slide, one of said packing-strips having a longitudinal slot iherein through which said set or binding screw passes, substantially as set forth.
4E. A door-securer, Comprising a fastening bar or plate having a loop or keeper, a slide provided with a lateral loop or keeper and beyond said loop with a plate portion or extension extending through the loop of said fastening-bar, the loop of said slide receiving said fastening-bar, said slide also having a set or binding screw and packing-strips interposed between said fastening-bar and slide, said packing-strips having near one end, upon the edge, stops or shoulders, adapted to engage the edge of the slide-loop, one of said packing-strips having a longitudinal slot engaged by said set or binding screw and the others of said packing-strips having bent terminals at their normally outer ends, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JULIUS P. VILDER.
