UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HOWARD A. ROSE, 01E FORT SCOTT, KANSAS.
DOOR-SEGURER.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, HOWARD A. ROSE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Scott, in the county of Bourbon and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Door-Securer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in contrivances or devices known as door-securers.
The invention has for its object to provide for efiectively securing, without the use of a key, a door against clandestine or unauthor ized opening.
A further object is to simplify the construction and arrangement of the parts, and to minimize the cost of manufacture.
A still further object is to provide for readily applying the device for use, also to effect its removal with facility from within.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent as the nature thereof is more fully disclosed by the following description.
The invention consists of certain inst-rumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully described and defined by the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made as to the detailed construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit thereof, Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, with the parts in position for insertion between the door and jamb; Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views thereof, with the toothed or ratchet members separated.
In carrying out my invention, I suitably stamp or cast from sheet-steel, or other suitable metal, three pieces or members, two of which may be in the form of, and each termed as a bar, designated by 1 and 2, respectively, while the third is a sleeve or collar 3 receiving, and slidable upon the first two members.
The two members 1 and 2 have outstanding therefrom, at right angles to their lengths, plate-like projecting tongues or studs 4: and 5, respectively, said tongues or studs extending from opposite sides of said members, however.
The striking or blanking up of the tongue or stud at leaves an orifice 6 in the member 1, of course, of corresponding out- Specification of Letters Patent.

line, said tongue being preferably quadrangular in outline and, in performing its function, is received by the bolt-receiving mortise or keeper of the striking plate, which will again be referred to later.
The tongue 5 of the member 2 terminates one end thereof and, when in its eflective position, is adjusted against or in contact with the door, as will be further noted presently.
The tongue or projection 5 extends be yond its carrying member 2 and abuts or is presented edgewise or at a right angle to the member 1, thus giving it a greater looking or door-engaging area than would otherwise be the case.
The members 1 and 2 are disposed edgewise with respect to each other, and the opposed edges thereof are furnished with serrations, teeth or ratchet surfaces, preferably saw-tooth like and designated as 7 and 8, respectively, said serrations or ratchetsurfaces being adapted to intermesh or interlock. The serrations or teeth 7 of the member 1 extend practically throughout the length thereof, while the teeth 8 extend only. a fraction of the length of the member 2 as shown, the same serving, in connection with the sleeve or collar 3, before referred to, for effecting the locln'ng action upon the door, or the holding of the two members 1 and 2 interlocked at the extreme outer end of the member 1 to provide for the retention of the inner end or tongue 5 of the member 2 sufficiently removed from the inner end or tongue & of the member 1 to allow of the convenient or ready insertion or adjustment of the tongue 4 of the member 1 into the bolt mortise or keeper.
The member 2, which is provided at its extreme outer end, with a finger-loop 9, or which may serve for its suitable suspension in place when not in use, has a cross-stud or pin 10 adjacent said finger-loop or end, to prevent the casual displacement of the slidable sleeve-member 3, as will be readily appreciated.
In applying the device for use, it is only required, by placing the door in partially open position, and after adjusting the parts in the last referred to position, to insert the tongue 4 into the bolt mortise or keeper, then close the door against the member 1, which will wedge or jam said tongue in place; the sleeve-member 3 is now to be slid to the extreme outer end of the member 2 releasing said member, it being retained from dropping to the floor by the hand; said sleeve-member is held to its outermost position upon the member 2, and the member 2 then adjusted in position, with its tongue 5 against the door, the sleeve member finally being moved into its innermost position,
which will effect the interlocking of the members 1. and 2, and accordingly the tongue 5 against the door and it, in turn, locking the tongue in the bolt keeper or mortise.
In order to remove the device and accordingly unlock the door, it is only required to more the sleeve 3 to its outermost position, thus providing for the separation of the interlocked members I and 2', which will allow oil? the outward movement of the member 2 and the disengagement of the tongue 5 from the door, when the door may be opened and the member 1 readily removed, together with the other members of the device.
What is claimed is 1. A door securer, including two interlocking members, each of which has an outstanding tongue at right angles to the body portion of the member, said members being positioned in such relation that the two tongues are disposed is opposite directions, and a sleeve surrounding the adjacent portions of the members to hold the members together.
2. A device of the type described, includ ing two interlocking bar-members having OpPtlSllCl) extending tongues, respectively, near 011e, and the corresponding end, and a sleeve slidable upon the bar-members and aiding to produce their interlocking action, said bar-members having intermeshing teeth to eltect such; interlocking action.
3. A device of the type described, including two interlocking bar-members, with in termeshing teeth therebetween, the teeth of one bar-member extendmg only through part of its length, and the teeth of the other bar member extending through its entire length, said bar-members having oppositely extending right angled tongues, respectively, or *anged with respect to one, and the corresponding end, and a sleeve sliclable upon said baranembers for aiding the locking action therebetween.
4: A device of the type described, including two bar members intermeshed for interlocking action and having oppositely extending right-angled tongues arrangedwith respect to one, and the corresponding end thereof, a sleeve slidable upon, and aiding to produce the interlocking action between said bar-members, one of said bar-members having a finger-looped end and a cross-stud at said end adapted to form a' stop for said sleeve to guard against its casualdisplacement.
A door secure'r, including two plates, ooacting me ans carried thereby'topermit the interlocking of the plates, a tongue formed at right angles to the body of each plate, said tongues when the plates are interlocle ing' extending laterally of the plates and in opposite directions, the-tongue of one mem ber' bein'g'of greater widtlr than its carrying plate, to, when the plates are interlocked, be ')ositioned, at right angles to the other plate, and asleeve slidable upon said plate to aid' in the interlocking action.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I? have hereto atlixed my signature in the presence 0t two witnesses.
