UNITED STATES ATENT prion.
EVA SOHOTTENFELS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SPOOL- STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 688,887, dated December 17, 1901. Application filed March 9, 1901. Serial No. 50,465. (No model.)
To aZZ whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, EVA SOHOTTENFELS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for holding spools of thread and the like and in combining therewith suitable means for severin g the thread. Its object is to provide a device of the kind mentioned that will be convenient and useful and easily constructed.
It consists, then, in combining with a suitable base posts for retaining the spools and in combining with the-base and posts means for severing the thread.
In the drawings accompanying this specification, Figure 1 is a plan View of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail of one of the posts.
A is the base, comprising a raised central portion a and a lower annular portion a. Both the upper and lower portions are provided at suitable intervals with posts B,upon
which the spools are secured. These posts are preferably made by bending a strip of spring metal and forming a shoulder b in one of the ends, near the top, to engage the spool.
A slot 1) in the extremity of the same member-is adapted to hold the free end of the thread and furnishes means for severing the same when a piece is drawn through for use.
For convenience the posts in the raised central portion are made considerably shorter than those on the lower part and the long spools are arranged around the bottom.
While I have herein described and illustrated a preferred form of construction of my device, I do not limit myself to the exact structure or details shown, but
l/Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a spool-holder, the combination of a frame comprising a base portion and a central raised portion, recesses in said frame, bent fiat spring-posts secured in said recesses, shoulders on the arms of said posts adapted to hold the spools in position, slots with sharpened sides in one of the arms of each of said posts, adapted to hold the free end of the thread and to sever the same when a desired length has been drawn through, substantially as herein described.
EVA SGI-IOTTENFELS.
