UNITED STATES PATENT oFFicE."
GEORGE H. Bourin, or BaooKLYN, NEWYORK.
' '.LWINE` DISPENSER.
Application vfiled February 8, 1927, Serial No. 166,697.
This invention relatesfto improvements in holders for twine. thread, tape, or the like, and more particularly .to a twine-dispenser or analogous apparatus, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide an apparatus or device of this character allowing a freely unwinding of the ktwine or thread etc. from its spool, and. an adjustment of the spool holder to the length ofthe spool.
Another object of my invention is the provision of 'a twine dispenser of this type equipped with means for resiliently guiding of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereofproceeds,
and will then be moie specifically deiinedin the appended claim. n
In the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of an apparatus constructed according to my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and
Fig. 3 is an end view of the device.
-As illustrated on the drawing, my novel and improved twine dispenser, holder and cutter comprises a base 10, preferably circular and made` of wood, however it will be clear that the base may also be ina-de in any other shape or form and from any material suitable for the purpose. This base 10 has a diagonally disposed depression or groove 11 in its upper face in which thelower, horizontally disposed shanks 12 and 13 0f uprights 14, 15 are movably arranged in superposition and angularly bent from said uprights, each having a longitudinal slot 16 formed therein. `These shanks are adapted to be'clamped together and locked in their respective relative adjusted positions by means of a bolt 17 set into the base and carrying at its upper threaded end projecting above the slotted upper member or shank 12, a wing nut 18 or the like allowing` Va f clamping of the holder shanks firmly in any of their relative adjusted positions.
kTwo horizontally disposed stubshafts 19 and k,20 respectively yare projecting. in opposite directions from. the inner facesjofthe uprights 14, 15l in the neighborhoodof their upper ends.V
lhese stub shafts are adapted to pass with 'their vends through centrally located openingsk in'v the curved or convex- concave end plates 21, 22 of a drum or spool, generally Vdesignated 23 upon which the twine, thread,
yarn, tape lor, the like is wound in the usualk well known manner,as indicated at 24.
A pair of bent leaf springs 25, 26 are ate tached at their lower ends to the inner faces.'y of the uprighs 14, 15, as at 27, 28, and then gradually spaced therefrom with the spaces increasing in size to their Lipper endswhere they carry'or are equipped with openings through which the stub shafts pass and engage at all times the sockets 29, 30 on the plates`21, 22 in order to keep the spool atall times in a. ceiit-ral position in the holder to avoid a binding of the spool in the holder and at all times securing a free movement of the same around its shafts.
To the outer face of support or upright 15 a holder 31 for a blade 32 is attached in which theblade is firmly held by means of the screws 33 or the likeso'that the outer edge of the blade projects into a space n tegrally made with the holder atV its lower end and curving from the same towards its upper end.
It will be understood that I 'have described vand shown the preferred form of my device as an example of the many ways in which the same may be practically constructed, and that such changes as come within the scope of the appended claim may be made in the general arrangement of my apparatus and inv the construction of the minor details thereof withoutdeparture from the spirit of my invention and thev principle involved.
, Having thus described my'invention, what ioo in said ianges, a wing nut Vat the upper end 0f said pin for loc-king the ianges in their relative adjusted positions to allow a regulation of the distance between the uprights to accommodate the saine to the size of the spool, a pair of stub shafts extending in opposite directions from the inner faces of the uprights near their upperends, a Spool, convex-concave end plates for said spool eentralljy located sockets in said plates, said plates and sockets adapted, or the reception oflsid stub shafts, a pair of bent substantially vertical leaf springs" secured to the inner faces of said uprights attheir lower ends and spaced therefrom having upper perforations through which said stub shafts pass,'said 'springs adapted to resiliently center the spool between the uprights and securing a ready operation of the thread.
Signed at New York in the county of New 20 York and State of New York this 17th day of lanuary, A. D. 1927.
