To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERBERT L. AMENT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook .and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Display-Hooks, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to display hooks, and especially to a type of display hook adapted for displaying various articles in windows or other places, and also supporting a tag or card indicating price or other information about the article.

Prominent objects of the invention are to provide a simple, practical and eflicient form of hook of the class specified; to cheapen and simplify the same and reduce the cost of manufacture; to insure'efiectiveness of operation, durability and efficiency; and to secure the foregoing and other desir able results in a simple .and expeditious manner.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevational view of a display hook e1nbodying my invention; Fig. 2 shows the strips or blanks from which the same may be made; Fig. 3 is a side view of the hook; Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 of a modification; Fig. 5 is a View similar to Fig. 2 of the blanks from which the hook of Fig. at mav be made, and Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 3 of the device of Figs. 4 and 5.

The hook embodying my invention involves a hook portion by which it may be suspended, a spring jaw arrangement by which the article can be positively clasped or caught, and also preferably involves means by which a card or tag supplying desired information may be supported near the article. ,To such end, as I prefer to make it, it comprises two separable parts which may be engaged with one another, and so constructed as to maintain such engagement and provide the desired portions above mentioned. These separable parts are conveniently in the form of metal strips or blanks, cut or formed in certain shape. In Figs. 1, 2 and 3, I have shown such blanks 1 and 2, which may be made of steel or other suitable strong and springlike material.

The blank 1 is shown formed with an upper narrow straight portion 1, and a lower wider portion l which latter is provided with a slot or opening 3, and is cut at at, t to form side strips or

5, 5. The blank 2 is formed with a narrow lower end 6 and a widening or tapering upper portion 7 having an aperture 8. The portion 6 of the blank 2 may pass into and move within the slot 3 of the blank 1; and the end portion 1 of the blank 1 may enter the opening 8 in the blank2. The two blanks are bent and are then fastened together, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. As shown in these figures, the upper end of portion 1 is inserted in aperture 8, and the lower portion 6 of blank 2 is passed through slot 3, and lower ends of 1 and. 6 bent laterally to form cooperating

9 and 10, respectively. The blanks are also bent so that the upper portions thereof form a hook portion by which the device may be supported or hung upon a rod or other object. The blanks are further bent at 11 and 12 to form the portions which extend angular-1y and cross one another. The

5, 5 are bent outwardly a little to form holders for engaging a card. Thus the completed device may be supported from a rod or otherwise and the members 1 and 2 may be pressed toward one another (Fig. 3), so as to separate the

9 and 10. The article to be supported may then be inserted between the jaws and then the same be permitted to spring close or as nearly close as they can,

with said article between them; it being observed that the portion 1 of the blank or member 1 is bent with less curvature than portion 7 of blank 2, so that blank 1 tends more strongly to straighten out, thereby tending to hold the

In the arrangement shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6, the hook is made up very much as shown in the preceding figures, but there is what may be said to be a reversal of the arrangement of the two blanks. Thus a blank 1 is provided with downwardly extending

5, 5 which are bent up as shown in Fig. 6, to form the clips for engaging the card; and the other blank 2 is provided with .an aperture 15, through which the lower end 16 of the blank 1 may pass, said end 16 being bent so as to extend through said aperture and being also bent to form a jaw 10. Thus referring to Figs. 3 and, 6., in .the modification ofFig. 6.the.left hand member 1 passes through anyapierture in the right hand member 2", which is just the reverse of the arrangement of Fig. 3.
