Unwrap STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OAKLEY MILNER BAILEY, OF-MURRAY, UTAH.
CUFF-BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 686,193, dated November 5, 1901.
Application filed May 10, 1901.
T0 (LZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it. known that LOAKLEYMILNER BAILEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Murray, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff-Buttons, ofwhich the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to what are known as link cuff-buttons; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class the link of which is longitudinally ad justable, and the invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvementare designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side View of my improved cuffbutton; Fig. 2, a sectional side view thereof; Fig. 3, a plan view of one of the parts of the button; Fig. 4:, a plan view of the inner part of the button, and Fig. 5 an end view of the part shown in Fig. 3.
In the practice of my invention I provide a link-button for cuffs comprising two head portions 5 and 6, which may be of the usual or any preferred shape or form, and pivotall y connected with the head portion 5 centrally thereof, as shown at 5 is a flat bar 5", which forms a part of the link and which is provided at its opposite sides with inwardly-directed flanges 5, in which are formed angular notches or recesses 5 and said bar 5 is also provided near the end thereof and centrally thereof with a stud or pin 5 The other head 6 of the button is also provided with a flat bar 6*, pivoted thereto at 6 and provided atregularintervals with lugs or projections 6, which are adapted to enter the angular notches or recesses 5 in the flanges 5 0i the bar 5, and said bar 0 is also provided at regular intervals with longitudinal slots or openings 6, each of which is enlarged at one end, as shown at li to receive a pin or lug 5*, which is preferably provided with a head.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the link part of the button is composed of two separate bars, which may be connected by passing the bar 6 in between the flanges 5 of the bar 5 the lugs or projections Serial No. 59,556 9. (No model.)
6 entering the angular notches or recesses 51, and in this operation the pin or projection 5 passes through one of the enlarged end portions of one of the slots or openings 6. The spring movement of the separate parts of the cuff hold the separate parts of the link in an extended position, and the pin, lug, or projection 5 passes into the smaller portion of the slot and holds the said part of the link together, and it will be apparent that said pin, lug, or projection may be passed through either of the openings in the bar 5 and the link may thus be shortened or lengthened, as desired.
This cuff-button is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and changes in and modifications of the construction described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificin g its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I- claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A link cuff-button, the link portion of which is composed of separate adjustable parts, substantially as shown and described.
2. A link cuff-button, comprising two ordinary heads and a link composed of two separate parts, one of which is pivotally connected with each head, said parts of the link being connected and longitudinally adjustable, substantially as shown and described.
3. A link cuff-button, the link of which is composed of two parts pivotally connected with the separate heads of the button, one of said parts being passed within the other, and means forlongitudinally adjusting the separate parts of the link, substantially as shown and described.
4. A link cuif-button, the link portion of which is composed of separate plates, one of which is provided with side flanges forming keepers adapted to receive the other, said plates being also provided with means whereby one is made adjustable upon the other, substantially as shown and described.
5. A link cuff-button, the link portion of which is composed of separate oblong members, one of which is provided with inwardlydirected side flanges forming keepers adapted to receive the other member, said flanges ICO being provided with notches or recesses, said my invention I have signed my name, in presother member being provided with lugs or ence of the subscribing witnesses, this 10th day of April, 1901.

projections, and one of said members being provided with a headed pin and the other with longitudinal slots adapted to receive said pin,
substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as
