BUSH-HAMMER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 425,153, dated April 8, 1890.

To all whom, t may concern-.-

Be it known that I, JOSEPH O. THERIEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bush-Hammers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to that type of instruments known as bush-hammers for 4construction and the combination or arrangement of parts hereinafter described in detail, and speciiically set forth in the claim, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in whichn Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved bush-hammer. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the head or poll and the clamp-plates separated from each other, and Fig. 3 is alongitudinal sectional view of the hammer.

In order to enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now describe the same in detail, referring to the drawings, wherein- The numeral 1 indicates the rectangular. head or poll piece formed integral at the cen; ter of each sidewith a cylindrical boss 2, these two bosses being in line and projecting laterally in opposite direction from the head orl poll piece. The two sets of cutters or blades 3 respectively abut opposite edges of the head orpoll piece and are of the ordinary construction. The rectangular clamp-plates et are each formed at its center with a circular orifice 5, extending therethrough totreceive within it one of the cylindrical bosses, the latter being of a length co-extensive with the thickness of the clamp-plates, so that the parts are iiush, as shown in Fig. 3. The clamp-plates are provided ateach end portion with a series of bolt-ho1es 6 for the passage of bolts 7, to which are applied nuts S. The bolts extend through both clamp-plates and through the cutters or blades, and by tightening the nuts the several parts are all firmly united and a rigid structure produced which provides a substantial, durable, and efficient bush-hammer for dressing stone.

I have shown the bosses cylindrical and the orifices in the clamp-plates circular; but I do not confine myself to this precise shape.

The eye 9 for the usual handle extends through the head or poll piece between the two bosses.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is Arbush-hammer consisting of the head or poll piece provided with two integral bosses extending laterally from the center in opposite directions, the clamp-plates, each having centrally between its longitudinal edges an oriiice which receives a boss, the cutters or blades, and the clamp-bolts, substantially as described.
