LEWIS ALBERT WRIGHT, OF ASPEN, WYOMING.
HAM MOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 674,721, dated May 21, 1901. Application filed October 20, 1900- Serial No. 33,725 (No model.)
To alt whom it may concern:
Be it known that LLEWIS ALBERT WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, at present residing at Aspen, in the county of Uinta and State of Wyoming, have invented a new and Improved Hammock, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved hammock which is simple and extremely durable in construction, very neat in appearance, and arranged to permit of convenient folding into a comparatively small bundle.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of theimprovement. Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of part of the same, and Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The improved hammock is made, preferably, of leather strips arranged as hereinafter more fully described, the hammock consisting of the flexible transverse strips A and series of loops B, the series of loops extending longitudinally and the loops in a series being linked together and each loop embracing a strip A between the linked ends of the loop, as will be understood by reference to the drawings.
In order to securely fasten the several parts together, each loop Bis connected by a rivet G with the corresponding transverse strip A, and as the loops are linked together at adjacent ends it is evident that the several parts are securely fastened together to form a flexible supporting-surface.
The outer ends of the end loops B are connected with sets of straps D and D,converging toward and secured to rings E and E, as is plainly shown in Fig. 1, the said strapsD and D having their ends formed into loops for engaging the loops B and the rings E and E and with rivets F for fastening the loop portions together, so as to securely hold the straps in position on the end loops B and the rings E and E.
A hammock constructed in the manner described forms a very durable supporting-surface and at the same time permits of conveniently folding the hammock into a comparatively small bundle.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A hammock provided with a series of longitudinal strands each consisting of a plurality of loops, each of said loops being doubled and having its superposed ends in contact with one another, while the other or main portions of the loop are spaced from each other, said main portions having adjacent to the contacting ends, openings through which passes the central portion or bend of an adjacent loop, ing between the spaced main portions of adj acent loops of different longitudinal strands.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEWIS ALBERT WRIGHT.
