UNITED STATES PA TENT FFTCE.
GEORGE W. BEAM AND PAUL E. GREEN, OF BUTTE, MONTANA.
BELT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE W'. BEAM and PAUL E. GREEN, citizens of the United States, residing at Butte, in the county of Silverbow and State of Montana, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Belts, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention is an improvement in belts, and consists in certain novel constructions, and combinations of parts hereinafter clescribed and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide an extensible belt, which may be folded to form a belt of ordinary width, or unfolded to make a belt of varying capacity, in accordance with the contents to be contained therein, and which in any position will be firmly secured together.
Referring to the drawings forming a part hereof: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the belt. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the belt completely folded. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the belt partially folded. Fig. 1 is a rear view of the belt opened. Fig. 5 is a front view of the belt opened. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one end of the belt and Fig. 7 is a section on the line 77 of Fig. 5.
The improved belt may be made of any suitable flexible material, capable of being folded, and may be ornamented in any suitable manner, and may be supported by a shoulder strap, and provided with holster attachments, and cartridge pockets if desired.
In the embodiment of the invention shown, in the drawings, the belt consists of a back 1 and a front 2, secured together at their ends by a double row of stitching 3 and 4, or in any other suitable manner, and the said front and back may be continuous at their bottoms as shown, or may be formed of two separate pieces. Between the rows of stitching 3 and at a plurality of eyelets are provided, the said eyelets being arranged at spaced intervals and extending the full width of the belt. At the center of the belt the front and the back pieces are connected by three transverse rows 7 of stitches, for the upper third of the distance from top to bottom, and for the remaining two thirds, the two pieces are divided as at 8, and a row of eyelets 9 is provided on each side of the division. A transverse strip 10 is secured to the front of the belt at its center, and the ends of the strip project above Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 17, 1909.
Patented May 17, 1910. Serial No. 502,700.
the belt as at 11, and below the upper third of the belt as at 12, and the end 11 is provided with studs 13, and the end 12 with spring sockets 14, for engagement by the studs, and the strip is of suflicient length to extend around the belt when folded into its smallest transverse dimension, and clasp together at its ends, as shown in Fig. 2. On the front of the belt and at each end is arranged an outside pocket 15 and the-ends of the belt, are each provided with a tab 17, to one of which is secured a buckle 18, while the other is provided with holes 19, for engagement by the tongue of the buckle, to secure the belt in place around the body of the wearer. A lace 20 is passed through the eyes at each end of the belt, and laces 21 and 22, are passed through the eyes on each side of the division at the center of the belt. The front and the back piece are also each provided with alongitudinal row 23 of stitching on the line of each fold as shown in Fig. 3.
lVhen the belt is used folded as shown in Fig. 2, the transverse strip is clasped around the folded belt, and the laces are passed through the eyes, at the ends, and on each side of the division, and the eyes of each series are so arranged, that when folded twice, three eyes will register, and when folded once two eyes will register in each series.
The laces are passed through the openings in any suitable manner to retain the belt in its folded position, and the arrangement may be varied to suit the taste of the wearer.
It will be observed that the transverse strip 10 forms another pocket at its junction with the front of the belt, there being no stitching across the top of the strip, as indicated in Fig. 1.
We claim:
1. A belt composed of a sheet of flexible material doubled longitudinally to form a front and a back, a double row of stitching connecting the ends of the front with the corresponding ends of the back, said front and back, being divided transversely at their center for the lower two-thirds of their width, and connected on each side of the line of division and above the same, a transverse series of eyelets between the rows of stitching at each end and a series on each side of the division, said front and back each being provided with a plurality of rows of longitudinal stitching dividing the said front and back into three sections and indicating the lines of fold, a lace in each of the series of eyelets for the purpose set forth and a transverse strip secured at the center of the belt and provided at one end with studs and at the other with sockets, and of a length to encircle the belt when folded into its narrowest dimension, and a pocket in the outer face of the front at each end.
2. A belt composed of a sheet of flexible material doubled longitudinally to form a front and a back, a double row of stitching connecting the ends of the front and the back, said front and back, being divided transversely at their center for the lower twothirds of their width, and connected on each side of the line of division and above the same, a transverse series of eyelets between the rows of stitching at each end and a series on each side of the division, said front and back each being provided with a plurality of rows of longitudinal stitching dividing the said front and back into three sec tions and indicating the lines of fold, a lace in each of the series of eyelets for the purpose set forth, and a transverse strip secured to the center of the belt and of a length to encircle the same when folded into its narrowest dimension, said strip being provided with means for securing the ends together.
3. A folding belt comprising a front and a back connected at their ends and provided with a transverse row of eyelets adjacent to each end, said front and back being divided transversely at their center from be low upward for approximately two-thirds of their width, and provided with a row of eyelets on each side of the division, a lace in each row of eyelets, a strip secured transversely to the belt at its center and provided with means for securing its ends together, and of a length to encircle the belt when it is folded'to its narrowest dimension, said belt being adapted to fold twice longitudinally, and means for indicating the line of the folds.
l. A folding belt comprising a front and a back connected at their ends and provided with a transverse row of eyelets adjacent to each end, said front and back being divided transversely at their center from be low upward for approximately two-thirds of their width, and provided with a row of eyelets on each side of the division, a lace in each row of eyelets, a strip secured transversely to the belt at its center and provided with means for securing its ends together, and of a length to encircle the belt when it is folded to its narrowest dimension, said. belt being adapted to fold twice longitudinally.
A folding belt comprising a front and a back connected at their ends and provided with a transverse row of eyelets adjacent to each end, said front and back being divided transversely at their center from below upward for approximately two-thirds of their width, and provided with a row of eyelets on each side of the division, a lace in each row of eyelets, said belt being adapted to fold twice longitudinally, means for indicating the line of the folds, and means at the center of the belt for retaining it in folded condition.
6. A folding belt comprising a front and a back connected at their ends and provided with a transverse row of eyelets adjacent to each end, said front and back being divided transversely at their center from below upward for approximately two-thirds of their width and provided with a row of eyelets on each side of the division, a lace in each row of eyelets, said belt being adapted to fold twice longitudinally and means at the center thereof for retaining it in folded condition.
7. A foldable belt comprising a front and back connected at their ends and provided with transverse rows of eyelets adjacent to each end, and a transverse strip at the center of the belt, said strip being secured at each end and transversely intermediate its ends and open at the top of the belt to form a pocket.
