UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD M. NOLD, OF PASADENA, CALIFORNIA.
CURTAIN-ROD BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 673,447, dated May '7, 1901.
Applicationfiled August 22, 1900. Serial No. 27,691- (No model.)
To (all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD M. NOLD,a citizen of the United States, with residence and post-office address at 298 Arcadia street, Pasadena, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Rod Brackets, of which the following is a full, complete, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in brackets for holding curtain-rods and kindred devices; and myinvention consists in certain features of novelty, hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure I is a side elevation of myimproved bracket. Fig. II is a top view. Fig. III is a perspective View showing curtain-rod in position. Fig. IV is a section taken on line IV IV, Fig. I.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a metallic strap folded upon itself, as shown at 2, and the two parts of the fold secured together by a rivet 3, an annular sleeve 4 being thus formed at the outer end of the bracket, the upper fold 5 of the bracket extending rearwardly in substantially a horizontal line, having a bent-up flange 6, with a hole 7 therein for the purpose of inserting a screw for fastening the bracket to the window-casing or other device. The lower fold extends downwardly and rearwardly, thus forming a brace 8, and at the free end of the brace is a flange 9, having a hole 10 therein for the insertion of a screw or nail for fastening the bracket to a'support.
11 represents a collar adapted to partially rotate Within the sleeve 4, a portion of the sleeve 4 being cut away, as shown at 12, thus forming a socket for the reception of the end of the curtainmod 13. The collar 11, While being of the same width as the sleeve 4, is only annular to the end of the recess, forming a socket in the sleeve. The inner end 14 of the collar 11 is cut away, so as to form a segment of a circle sufficient to close up the socket 12 in the sleeve 4 after the rod 13 has been placed in position.
15 represents a pin in the collar 11, which limits the rotary movement of said collar, the pin coming in contact with the edges of the strap left in forming the socket.
The collar 11 is provided with a thumbpiece 16, whereby said collar may be rotated and inclose the end of the curtain-rod. (See Fig. III.) The collar 11 is provided near its outer end with an annular recess 17, into which projecting points 18 of the sleeve 4 extend in order to prevent endwise movement of the collar in the sleeve, said points 18 being formed of the body of the sleeve 4 and being bent inwardly to engage the annular recess 17.
I claim as my invention 1. In a device of the kind described, the combination of a supporting-strap, a sleeve provided with a socket, a collar, and means for partially rotating the collar; an annular recess in the collar and bent portions of the sleeve extending into said recess to prevent displacement of the collar, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a device of the kind described the combination of a supporting-strap bent upon itself, a cut-away in the bent portion of the strap, depending lugs or points integral with one edge of the said bent portion, of a collar 11, cut away as at 12, a pin 15 in said collar, a thumb-piece integral with said collar and an annular groove or recess 17 in the collar into which the points 18 extend to prevent endwise movement of said collar.
EDWARD M. NOLD.
