,Be it known that We, DELBERT B. MCCAPES and EDWARD D. QUINN, of Vermillion, in the county of Clay and State of South Dakota, have invented a new and Improved Curtain- Fixture, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Our invention relates to improvements in curtain-fixtures; and the object of our invenvention is to produce a cheap, simple, and handsome fixture which may be conveniently applied to either the outer or inner face of the window-frame or to any other suitable support which is constructed in such a way that an ordinary shade-roller can be conveniently hung in it and which may be readily adjusted vertically, so as to bring the shaderoller to the desired height.

To these ends our invention consists of certain features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the fixture embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a crosssection on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the barrel of a fixture, the view showing the opposite fixture to that illustrated in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail side elevation of one of the sliding brackets used in connection with the fixtures. Fig. 6 is a de tail view of the adj usting-rod, and Fig. 7 is a detail sectional view of a modified form of bracket which is adapted to extend at right angles to the slot in the barrel of the fixture.

The fixtureis provided with a top socket 10, which is ornamented with a ball 11 or other ornamentation, although a plain socket may be used if preferred, and the socket is provided with side arms 12, having screw-holes 13 therein to enable the socket to be fastened to a support. The socket is adapted to receive the upper end of the main'barrel 14, which is longitudinally slotted, as shown at 15, and a tongue 16 on the inner side of the socket extends into the slot, and so prevents the barrel from turning or twisting.

The barrel 14. is provided, preferably at a point near the bottom, with arms or lugs 17, having screw-holes 18 therein to enable the arms and barrel to be fastened to a support. An adjusting-rod 19 extends upward into the barrel, being preferably ornamented with a ball 20 or with any ornamentation harmonizing with that at the top of the fixture, and the rod enters the sleeve 21 of a bracket 22, which extends outward through the slot 15 of the barrel, and the bracket is provided with a hole 23 or notch 24: (see Figs. 5 and 2) to receive the end of a shade-roller, the bracket at one end of the roller having the hole and the one at the opposite end the notch, as is the custom with shade-fixtures The sleeve 21 and bracket 22 areslotted to receive a pin 26, which holds the sleeve and.

bracket to the rod 19, and the pin is adapted to enter and rest in notches 27 on one edge of the slot 15, and so regulate the height of the bracket The rod 19, which carries the bracket, is also provided with a spiral spring 28, which is coiled around said rod, one end of the spring being secured to the rod and the other entering the slot 15, and the pressure of the spring is such as to hold the pin 26 against one side of the slot 15, so that the pin will automatically enter a notch 27, and when the rod is to be moved vertically it is turned against the tension of the spring 28 until the pin passes a notch.

The fixture illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 is adapted to be secured to the outer face of a window-frame, so that the bracket 22 will extend straight out at right angles to the window; but it it is desired to secure the fixture to the inner side of the frame the bracket 22 is bent, as shown at 29 in Fig. 7, after leaving the slot 15, so that the main portion of the bracket extends at right angles to the slot 15.

It will be seen that the brackets 22 of two opposite fixtures may be easily adjusted up and down and held by the pins 26 in the notches 27, and while we have shown but two notches 27 in the barrel 14 it will, of course, be understood that a greater or less number of notches may be usedif desired.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A curtain fixture, comprising a longitudinally slotted barrel, means for fastening the barrel to a support, a bracket slidable in the barrel and projecting through the slot, an adjusting rod extending upward into the barrel and connected with the bracket, and a fastening device to fix the position of the bracket and rod, substantially as described.

2. A curtain fixture, comprisingalongitudinally slotted barrel having means for attachment to a support, an adjusting rod extending upward into the barrel, a bracket secured to the rod and projecting from the slot in the barrel, and means, as the pin on the rod and the notches in the barrel, for fastening the bracket, substantially as described.

3. A curtain fixture, comprisinga top socket having means for attachment to a support, a barrel longitudinally slotted and having its upper end held in the socket, means for securing a barrel to a support, a bracket slidable in the barrel and projecting from the slot, and an adjusting rod extending upward into the barrel and adapted to move the bracket, substantially as described.
