Letters Patent No. 67,015, dated July 23, 1867` IMPROVED WIN DOW-BLIND PASTENER.
lilgi tigemle rrftmy tu in time tettet @anni mit mating part nf the time.
To ALL WHoM IT MAY ooNoERN:
Be it-known thatI, JACKSON R. BAKR, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented a. new and improvedvWindow-Blind Fastener; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings', forming a parl: of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a portion of a window-casing and blind to which my improved fasteningr has been attached.
Figure is a. side view of thesame, part of the lower hinge being broken away.
Sir'nilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved fastening, by the use of which the blind will be held securely when open, and which can be operated to close the blind without its being necessary to' reach so fur out of the Window as is the case when the ordinary fastening is used; and it consists in the combination of the catch-spring and support with each other and with the strap of the hinge, and in the manner of securing the support'to-the casing.
Areprescnt-s 'the windowfcasing, and B represents a blind or shiutter, about the construction of which parts there i's nothing new. C is the catch, upon the upper end of 4whichis formed a hook or catch to take hold of the edge of the strap D of. the hinge, and the lower end of which may be made heavy to assist the spring in moving it4 forward to take hold of the said strap D. The catch C is pivoted to the strap E or some other suitable support, and muy be arranged to take hold of the upper or lower edge of the hinge-strap D, or of an umn attached to the blind B. F is a. spring, one end of which is secured to the support E, and its other end rests aga-inst the rear side of the catch C to hold it forward in position to take hold of the strap D of the hinge when the blind B is pushed back. The strap or support E passes down to the casing; it is then bent at right angles, passes beneath thc plate G of the hinge, and isagain bent at right angles to poss around the corner .of the casing A, as shown in-igs. 1 and 2. Upon the end of the strap E alle formed one or more claws, as shown in dotted `lines in iig. 1, which said cla-w or claws are forced-into the casing, and which, together with the said straps passing beneath the hinge-plate G, holdthe said support securely in place without its being necessary to secure i it withscrews, nails, or in any other wny. -If desired this same device may be attachedto the side or sill of the casing to fasten the blind closed,
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the fastening C F E with the strap D of the hinge and plate G, substantially as herein shown und described for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 3d day of April, 1867.
JACKSON R. BAKER.
