THi 05m: Ptrgns ca. mo'ra-uqww wasnmovou n c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ANNIE T. ROGERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
G LOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 667,338, dated February 5, 1901.
Application filed May 9, 1900. Serial No. 16,099. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNIE T. ROGERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Protecting Fingers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improved device adapted to protect the fingers while applying any polishing substance to stoves, woodwork, furniture, &c., and is designed to be worn upon the fingers and held upon the same by means of an elastic band engaging around the wrist and connecting elastic strips adapted to connect the coverings for the fingers and the said band.
Heretofore various devices have been made in the form of gloves to be used for polishing purposes. In all of these devices heretofore invented the serious objection has been the tendency of the hand to perspire within the glove, causing great inconvenience to the user. Mydeviceobviates thisinconvenience, as it does not entirely cover the hand, but only affords a covering for the fingers, leaving the rest of the hand free to the atmosphere.
The nature of my invention will best be understood by the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which similar letters refer to similar parts, and in which Figure l is a view of a hand having my device attached, shown in the act of grasping a polishing-cloth; and Fig. 2 is a general view of the device.
In the practice of my invention I provide the finger-coverings A, which are suspended from the elastic band B by means of the elastic strips 19, which are securely fastened to the said band at b.
The finger-coverin gs Aare preferably made larger in diameter than the average-sized finger and are adapted to be gathered at at by means of the strip 19, passing through the eyelets a, and are thereby adapted to engage snugly around the finger when same is inserted within the said covering A.
The finger-coverings A may be made of any suitable flexible material that is impervious to heat and will not be affected by water or other liquids.
The elastic band B is preferably made in the form of a ring and is adapted to be passed over the hand and fit-snugly upon the wrist and may be lined with any suitable lining, as 19 for a finish.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters 7 Patent, is-
In an improved device for protecting the fingers the combination with suitable fingercoverings, of an elastic band to engage around the Wrist of the hand and suspending elastic strips securely fastened to the said band and having their lower ends formed in loops engaging through eyelets upon the said fingercoverings, thereby affording a means for suspending the said finger-coverings from the aforesaid elastic band, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 3d day of May, 1900.
ANNIE T. ROGERS.
